COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rare Vos is Flemish for "Sly Fox," and the name of one of Brussels’ great cafes. It has a sweetly fruity malt character and yeasty spiciness. A fine dose of yeast permits the beer to mature and mellow in the bottle.

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2021 Ommegang is mostly good with their Belgian style brews. I purchased Rare Vos the first time I saw it and have to sample it a bit sooner than expected due to a partial opening during the trip home. The pour arrives a dark orange-gold topped with a heroic eggshell tan head. The scent gives promise of something bigger than your basic dark Belgian ale. I have a drink, well, it touches all the bases mostly. Red plums, yellow raisins, coriander, yeast, malt and grain. Slightly sweet, slightly bitter concluding but a little thin in sensation.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2020 Bottle. Pours a dark amber with small tan head. Aroma is malty and fruity with some spices. Heavily fruity flavor up front with bitterness and then some sweet malty notes later. Not bad.

A boring brew. Drinkable but not much going for it. Disappointing as this brewery has some pretty decent offerings. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2019 12 oz. bottle was marked for $2 in a bargain bin. Burnt orange sunset pour with white dense, billowy crown. Nose is tart citrus with hints of some funk. First taste is full of spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, coriander, grains of paradise -- it's all here in some measure. Backbone made up of richly toasted caramel malts. Chewy toffee flavor compliments the spiced character of the beer. Good complexity and a creamy rich mouthfeel go a long way to making this yet another standout offering from Ommegang.
