UPDATED: JAN 4, 2022 Can - labeled as 8.1% abv - some supposedly famous beer writer I guess I’m supposed to hold in high regard called this one of his favorite beers of the year, so obviously I was obligated to try it - gotta admit that it’s actually a pretty solid and traditional rendition - tastes like they used the Westmalle yeast in this one - it has the pepper and dusty/cobweb character I associate with that yeast - rich maltiness through the middle, with some dark fruit and caramelized sugars - finishes on the more dry side, but with lingering dark bread - finishing pepper/spiciness lingers on the palate - I’m rather partial to this style and this is imperfect but made with love.
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2021 Clear reddish appearance with a beige head. Aroma of caramel malt, dough, mild Belgian yeast, light fruity esters and a light herbal spice. Mild to moderate sweetness and a light spicy bitterness. Medium body with with a slight dry finish. Solid.
