Mortlach (4352) - Rome, ITALY - OCT 10, 2021UPDATED: OCT 11, 2021 On tap @Sam Beer (Rome). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma color cappuccino molto scura, media e persistente. Al naso intense note di cioccolata di pasticceria, vaniglia, melassa, frutta secca. In bocca è dolce all'attacco, cioccolatosa, chiusura un filo amara. Corpo pieno, carbonazione media. Notevole.
tomekk1978 (2783) - Z±bki, POLAND - JUL 24, 2021UPDATED: JUL 24, 2021 Aromat ciasta czekoladowego, nieco likierowy, alkoholowy. Lekko kwaskowy. Pełnia wysoka, wysycenie średnio-niskie i kwaskowo-palony finisz z nutą alkoholową.
tightslice (2689) - Austin, Texas, USA - MAY 22, 2021UPDATED: MAY 22, 2021 Bottle from Josh E. in Austin, TX. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, brownie dessert. Taste is chocolate dessert, fudge, vanilla, booze very well hidden. Def something you might get at TGIFridays after your jalapeño poppers.
tfontana (3801) - Fremont, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 2, 2021UPDATED: MAY 2, 2021 Taster pour as part of a flight from Thirsty Moose, Exeter. It's an opaque black with a thin cap of light brown head quickly fading to a ring with nice viscosity and no lacing. Aroma is strong chocolate/fudge and toffee. Hint of dark fruit. Taste is strong toffee, roasted earthy malts, chocolate, mild dark fruit/cherry, light coconut and spice like a Mexican stout (?cinnamon?). Mouthfeel is medium-to-full bodied with thick, frothy texture, average carbonation and finish as taste with a lingering mildly tart element. Overall, not as fudgy as I would have expected in the flavor, though is there in spades in the aroma.
hohops (2016) - Kent, ENGLAND - MAR 28, 2021UPDATED: MAR 28, 2021 Appearance is black, with a small fizzy beige head which quickly goes. Aroma is lots of chocolate, Black Forest gateaux, coffee, cherry, toffee, dark fruits, chocolate fudge cake. Taste is chocolate brownie, coffee, chocolate fudge, dark fruits, vanilla hints, chocolatey finish with the vaguest hint of chilli.
neongolden (3888) - Quebec City, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 21, 2021UPDATED: FEB 24, 2021 (355ml bottle from a now-forgotten webshop) Pours black with a thick mocha-coloured head. Notes of chocolate cake, fudge, some roasted malts with cacao and a little coffee, moderately sweet up front but drier and somewhat more bitter into the finish with roast and cacao reducing the fudge vibes a little bit. Nice long chocolate finish. Medium full oily body and soft carbonation, hidden alcohol. Nice stuff really, not overly pastry for a dessert stout but good chocolate presence.
DerWeg (2175) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 26, 2021UPDATED: JAN 26, 2021 Bottle from LCBO, a deep dark thick rich RIS with some alcoholic power warming the profile. The brownie additions seem mostly fermented out except for the bit of chocolate reinforcing the chocolatey malts. A British attitude overall, with figgy dark fruits and some winelike sweetness dominating, hops in a supporting role, very distant patent malt ash. It does have nice smooth nuances of dark bread and mineral and black liquorice-like herbals and coffee mocha. Maybe hints tamari and olive, like every great UK RIS. Really long palate! Nose is like taste yet a hint barnyardy. Might develop more leathery and blackcurrant notes over time in the cellar, definitely big big stout with mostly bold richness but also some real dimensionality going on.
midovark (4274) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JAN 5, 2021UPDATED: JAN 5, 2021 Bottle at home from Csakajo. Pours jet black with a thin beige head. Nose is fudge, chocolate and cocoa powder with hints of coffee and roasted malts. Taste is boozy chocolate really and almost nothing ele, some cocoa powder and coffee here and there. It’s pretty weird, cause it somehow feels thin, but not body-wide (although there’s improvement there as well), but rather in the taste, it just doesnt feel enough. Closes with sweet boozy chocolate finish, has an average creamy-oily body and soft carbonation. Not bad at all, but expected more tbh.
cfrancis (4577) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 27, 2020UPDATED: DEC 27, 2020 Pours black with a small fudgy brown top that quickly disappears. Aroma is sweet chocolate, a little roasted malt. Taste is chocolate but not overly sweet. Some bitterness, probably from the roasted malt.
bhensonb (20185) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 19, 2020UPDATED: NOV 19, 2020 Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brn/blk with a moderate creamy dark tan head. Aroma is more brownie than fudge. Full bodied, arguably. There's heat, but it's not distressing. Toasted malt; chocolate. There's bitter - could be hop - could be burnt malt - could be dark chocolate. Hard for me to parse, but the flavor is scrumptious. Good stuff!
