COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Munichwine is a new sub-style of barleywine that I quietly created at Private Press throughout the pandemic. The genesis of this new beer style is rooted in my admiration for both barleywine and Munich malt. A Silent Pursuit aged in both bourbon and California grape brandy barrels, and reminds me of spirit-soaked bread pudding, topped with toasted almonds, and covered in a dark sweet cherry caramel sauce. I am excited to see how this new style develops both at Private Press and beyond. Dauner (barrel #119) aged 9 months in California grape brandy barrels Kriegel (barrel #126) aged 7 months in Old Forester bourbon barrels Kriegel (barrel #129) aged 7 months in Buffalo Trace Experimental bourbon barrels

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2021 500 ml bottle from the membership. Pours a slightly cloudy amber with a small off-white head that settles into a thin ring. Notes of caramel, honey, wheat, toasted almonds, toffee, golden raisins, dates, dried cherries, and graham crackers. Medium-bodied, with modest carbonation and a sweet, malty mouthfeel. I sure wouldn't mind more experimentation within this Munichwine style segment.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2021 Bottle shared with alexsdad06. Poured black color with an average frothy tan head that lasted with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted barrel aged dark malt and fruit aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark rich sweet flavor with a moderate to heavy dark sweet finish of medium to long duration. This standout beer met my high expectations.

Ibrew2or3 (10208) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - NOV 17, 2021
UPDATED: NOV 17, 2021 50cl bottle pours with a deep dark mahogany colored body that supports a thin light tan ring of foam. The modest aroma offers up a thin bouquet of malts to include sweet crystal malts and a blend of rye bread and vegan enhanced cracker. The taste delivers smooth soft modestly sweet maltiness blended with a fair load of boozy bourbon barrel character. The maltiness takes on an earthy grainy to kind of rye deli cracker (if that's a thing). This is pretty nice and it has a pretty nice balance between barrel character and beer. It comes across a little shallow and seems to be missing a bit of sweet dark fruit estery depth.
