UPDATED: MAR 13, 2021 Dark black with light beige head, slight toasty coffee and chocolate notes with mild carbonation. Finish is dry and slightly bitter. It’s not bad, but it’s bland, lacks depth and has a slightly dry bitter after taste that isn’t overly pleasant.

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2020 opague very dark brown with light beige head. aroma is light roast coffee, chocolate. slightly astringent, maybe 32 ibu of higher alpha hops exclusively, soma aroma hops-minty, mint gum. okay, its nice to drink an acceptable stout so its getting more praise than it deserves.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2020 473ml can from LCBO. Pours an opaque black colour with one finger of lasting brown head. Aromas of roasted malts and some coffee. Taste matches the aroma with some chocolate notes and bitter finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

UPDATED: AUG 4, 2018 Pours a lasting thin brown webbing of head atop an opaque black. Nose of sweet roasted malt. Flavour of toasty malt, sweet oily licorices and lasting gritty coal through the finish. To my liking

Where Purchased: 473ml can from LCBO #310 part the brewers holiday mixer pack 2017. Consumed: from a draught glass (not the glass that came free in the pack). Aroma: Smells pretty hoppy and a bit sour masking the maltyness. Appearance : unfiltered black colour (like used motor oil) with thin brown head that disappears quick with no lacing. Taste: A bit of sweetness and maltyness followed up by some fairly heavy hops. Palate : medium to heavy body. Bitter aftertaste. Good carbonation. Overall: I went in with somewhat low epextations with this one as Ihave not loved any other beer from the brewer. This would be my favorite beer by them but it still is too hop heavy. It also lacks someting in the taste. Something in the middle. I can't explain it any better then that. I was glad to try but will not buy again. MB. The Beer "Bear"on.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2018 Good! Really nice dry stout. Probably the darkest beer i have had to date. Dark brown head, with good retention and lots of lacing. Pours black. Medium/high carbonation, Very forward of roasted/burnt malts. Low nose aromas and hop bitterness, hints of toffee & coffee. Thick palate. One of the better stouts I've tried. Enjoying this brew, becoming one of my "go to beers" Tall can lcbo TO.

pours an almost oily black with a medium-sized dark crema head offering some retention and lacing. strong wooden charred notes, semi-sweet chocolate for cookies, very dark roastiness tending towards smokiness, but never ashy or iodized, just a touch of acidity but not like classic roasted acidity notes, oddly enough, more like a (short) espresso with a touch of citrus, bitter coffee that is; some earthiness along pine needles, no metallic oatmeal for body thankfully as it is already corpulent as is, perhaps english but fruity yeast action. moderate carbonation, light body - fairly oily; fairly bitter earthy-coffee finish. one of the rare that can actually "wear" such a black (coal) note. very nice robust americanized stout - a ufo in their lineup.

Frothmeister (900) - Ontario, CANADA - DEC 4, 2017
473 can from the 2016 Christmas pack. Forgot this guy in the cellar. Best before is "April 2017", but it seems no worse for wear. Pours black, with a dark mocha cap. Aromas of molasses, dark roast coffee, lots of roasty malt notes, faint ash, and cocoa. Taste wise, lighter bodied than expected but with LOTS of flavour. Molasses, dark roast coffee, lots of dark malt, a faint mineral note, and a light seam of acidity that heads into bigger, more tannic versions of what was previously described with a dry, bitter espresso finish. Railway City has been pretty hit and miss in the past, but if the 2017 version of this is as good, I'm going to stock up.

Dark dark brown black with thick brown head. Thick malty chocolatey aroma and equal flavour. The body is medium and well balanced with the flavour.
