UPDATED: NOV 17, 2021 Super dark brown coloured body with a fairly thick, three to four centimetre tall off-white and tan head that slowly fades atop the slightly opaque deep brown body, around 75 per cent opaque. Aroma of roasted malt, oatmeal, light grainy notes, a ton of caramelised sugars, lactose and a bunch of bright cherries - odd, but very strong in the nose. Medium-bodied; Rich chocolatey, earthy, nutty, caramel flavours dominate with some of the cherries noticeable, but also some of the metallic twang and graininess with a lot of the bitterness from the roasted malts, coffee and chocolate all showing through towards the end. Aftertaste shows a richness from the chocolate and grain with a bitterness then from the oatmeal and especially the metallic notes with some alcohol coming through and a good deal of pungency, mostly from the malts, but also from the residual sugars and the metallic astringency. Overall, a rich, earthy, nutty and especially coffee and metallic twanged beer with a lot of flavours and richness throughout that work relatively well, but show strongly - which can be a nice thing, especially when the weather turns slightly chilly. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Total Wine in Cary, North Carolina (Crossroads Boulevard) on 30-May-2021 for US$1,79 sampled at my house here in Washington on 16-November-2021.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2021 2$ can from total wine durham. Nice pour; almost black with a one inch choco moose head. Smell is mildly cold coffee. First taste is coffee up front, much like an almost impy stout. Probably not as mannered as a good porter should be, have had many other coffee beers that were a little more well behaved. Decent creamy co2. Alky content sticks its head up in the middle, becomes a little more volatile than expected. Visions of older burnt damp aged campfire wood becomes prominent. Wild wind howling thru the braincells, like a windy dark moonless drifting snowy night. Towards the finish I'm having trouble appreciating this brew. It becomes more difficult to deal with in the end. So be it, glad its over. There; you have it. Will not purchase again.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2021 Very nice porter. Lots of coffee, but doesn't take over this beer. Lots of roast, from malt and coffee. Some nut, dark chocolate, a light bit of bark. Black pour with good head and lacing. Bitter finish. Can from Brewmasters.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2020 Month old can A: Poured a syrupy brown black with almost no head. S: Roasty coffee and burnt toasty bread. Light overall scent. T: Very roasty though not too burnt flavor. Rich coffee stands out from, without overpowering sweet molasses and an ending of tart plum or prune. M: Fairly thick and full bodied with weak carbonation and chewy finish. Warming bit of alcohol going down. O: Nicely balanced and well rounded flavors with just the right amount of coffee. Quite good.

Can from Sam's Quik Shop in Durham. Pours dark brown with a large beige head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate candy (cheap), roasted malt. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, cocoa powder. The chocolate just tastes cheap.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2018 Brilliant, billowy head; deep, deep brown pour. Coffee aroma, slightly nutty with a little berry. Bitter and slightly sour. Full body and rich texture with a finish that goes on for days. Some cans have a more spicy tinge to them.

COD 7/18/17. Pours black as Satan's heart. World class massive head volume and equally world class tremendous retention. Lacing, surprisingly, was only normal. Borderline outstanding nose of coffee and roast, predominately. Underneath is a light touch of dark caramel. No chocolate or cocoa was detected. Light medium body that is quite smooth in texture but also provides a somewhat slick feel and a tease of creaminess. World class carbonation / body balance. The middle effervesces nicely, then subsides a bit and delivers a finely bubbled finish that produces the creamy aspect. The flavor profile is outstanding and is quite tasty, but lacks complexity. Intensity is adequate while balance is world class. Nothing really dominates nor is in your face. Coffee arrives first and trails off to light roast in the middle. Bitterness is quite mild and presents as being hop oriented rather than roast. The roast aspect is quite subdued and gives this porter a mild world class balance. Middle sweetness is subtle but does provide contrast. As it warms, you can find a hint of prune is you really search for it. The finish is a slow fade with coffee lingering.

12 oz. maybe was canned on 06/07 and is a mild gusher. Loose meringue of foam after it settles on the deep brown body. Aroma of espresso, ash, bread and caramel. Flavors of green and dark roasted coffee, caramel, green banana and bread. Aftertaste is a nice mix of toffee, sour cream and ash. Medium bodied with a little too much fizz at times, but a nice balance.
