Excellent aroma and head - looks like a real beer should. Good flavor and 'hoppy sprucy finish' is accurate.

UPDATED: MAR 14, 2020 Keg at Eugene City Brewery (Rogue), Eugene, OR on 19/06/2008. Not a bad beer, but I found the astringency of the hops to have an almost ‘ear waxy’ note to it (“how do you know what ear wax tastes like, Ed?”... c’mon - we were all kids).

This is the first Rogues that I tried about 3-4 years ago, and after sampling many others from them, still one of my favorites. Not overwhelmingly red, if that makes sense, and a little more hoppy than most....something to do with dry-hopping? Was also the first dry-hopped beer that I sampled. I stopped buying it though cause it's a little pricey for something that's only 5.2%, plus I've been trying to sample new things. It's still worth the price because it's one of the smoothest and crispiest red ales out there. I've been sampling some of Lagunitas Red Ales lately and love those too, but this I'd say is a little better, not as strong though.

Bitterbill (2959) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - OCT 18, 2017
From Nov 2006 Poured from 12oz bottle(room temp) a clear red with a large head of foam that shrank slowly leaving a solid layer with some lacing. The smell is an abundant nose of sweet caramel malt. The taste is sweet caramel malt up front with some grain and just a touch of hop bitterness near and through the finish making it a sample of the style that I can enjoy and revisit without hesitation. Bottom line: Another tasty brew from Rogue that I can recommend.

From old tasting notes. Deep reddish brown color. Creamy beige head. Spicy malt nose. Delicious bittersweet toasted malt flavor upfront. Complex sprucy hop finish. Long dry aftertaste very tasty and flavorful.

Draft Third of a Pint at GBBF 2010 (Day 4), Earl’s Court, London Aug 2010 - Hazy but OK. Reddish-copper in colour. Very Hoppy; Resinous piney and earthy hops. Malty; grainy malts, roasty, caramel. Fruity; citrus grapefruit. Piney hops dominate over sweet grainy malts. Dry bitter hoppy finish. Very drinkable. Decent. (2010-08)

Bought in a 22 oz. bomber. Perhaps I obtained an old bottle or it may be that I simply cannot connect with this one. I do not know. It pours a nice dark amber with a fantastic egg shell foam that lasts a good long while. Drops down from there.Scent is malty with a bit of woodiness. The beer tastes of biscuit and a light hop tone that leaves quickly. I detect a dryness with a slight bitterness at the end. Hard to try this one again.

Took rating from old notes. Refreshing, medium bodied beer with a lasting frothy head. Nice hops balance. Further notes pending re-rating.
