COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
On Labor Day 2004 John Maier picked up a 300 lb. load of fresh Newport hops at the Annan Hop Farm near Mt. Angel. The hops were picked just before he arrived, and were in the kettle at the brewery in Newport by 4:20 pm. Hop Heaven Ale will be ready in late September and served only on tap at the Rogue Ales Public Houses. These Newport hops are very limited and only 1.5 acres are grown by only one hop grower, John Annan.

Draft at the 2006 Washington Cask Beer Festival. Remember this also being a standout that night. Glorious fresh citrus notes blasting at you through all the whole brew. Would love to try this again!

Draught at Rogue Ales - Brewer’s on the Bay. From notes. Harvest hops from Washington. Almost industrial strength. Mostly bittering hops. Very nice.

Gift for Rogue night. This beer was really tasteful. Mildly hazed amber pour. With abold hoppy aroma. Floral, grass, citrus and spice taste, blended perfectly to make one good beer.

A- pours a golden orange hue with a fair amount of an off-white head. Great sheeting lace. Slight amount of sediment. (I just tapped it) S- strong citrus aroma, almost like cutting into a ruby red grapefruit. great hop bouquet. T- has a burnt orange flavor with a great balance between the hops and malts M- leaves the mouth very warm and dry, while the bitters from the hops linger for a while. D- I couldn’t drink this all night but as with any limited beer, I definitely needed to have a couple.

Draft: Deep orange-rust. Sticky, semi-rocky, creamy off-white foam. Stellar retention. Clean scents of nutty yeast, caramelized malt and piney hop whispers. Considerably fruity with refined raisin, strawberry preserves, and candied plum esters. Gracefully snug carbonation. Dense yet with a feathery weightlessness. Deceptively bitter pine captivates the palate as beautifully nutty and buttery yeast lends a soft sweetness that quells and complements the bitter hop sting. Deep malts continually blossom and enhance the nutty yeast with dainty caramelized nut sweetness. Juicy suggestions of raisins lurk beneath ever so quietly. Hop bitterness is remarkably clean and deceptively forceful. Delicate acidity uplifts while adding another layer, soon giving way to the fluffy malt and cottony bitterness. Finishes full and rustic yet wonderfully polished and focused with a symphony of toasted nuts fused with pinesap and cottony hops. Yeast deposits a coating on the tongue which accentuates the nutty and bready malt. Masterful balance with astonishing complexity and quaffability. Has that signature Rogue leathery/nutty/buttery yeast character, clean and well-placed hop bitterness, savory malt fullness with lots of nuance, texture, and depth. Doesn’t get much better than this. Fantastic stuff.

Hop Heaven indeed, true to its style this brew pours a bright golden colour with a full white floral head. Full on the palate with vibrant ripe fruit and fresh hop flavors.

They just don’t get any better than this. HOPS, HOPS, HOPS. Spicy, flowery aroma that absolutely fills your head with that hoppy goodness. Gold amber color. Nice head and lacing that sticks around throughout the drinking experience. I was in heaven this was great.

on tap @ papago... nice amber colored pour with a frothy white head. it leaves behind some decent pillowy lacing. all hops aroma... lots of floral, citrus/grapefruit, light pine, grass and spiciness in front of some sweet grains. i wish the flavor profile was the same. overly malty and grainy with not enough hop bitterness to make it stand out. it’s quite tasty. but in a world of west coast ipas it’s rather mediocre. borderline full body with a nice rich heavy texture...

Bierkraft growler. Bright orange/copper color with a dense frothy head leaving craggy lacing. Beautiful grapefruit and floral hops in the aroma. Has a hop presence which is assertive but pure, characterized by a zesty grapefruit bitterness, and still perfectly balanced against a clean caramel body, leaving a mellow resin on the tongue with no harsh astringency. This seems to be the common flavor profile for the perfected West Coast IPAs. Much pleasure here.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2008 On tap at Mellow Mushroom in Brandon, FL. Cloudy amber color with little lacing. Tons of floral hops in the nose. Very hoppy indeed flavor-wise as the name suggests. Definitely has that Rogue yeast flavor, too. Interesting find.
