COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Another entry into Sam Adams Small Batch Series – Dark Depths. Depths is a IPA or a hoppy porter ( Need some clarification) brewed with a lager yeast for an interesting mesh of styles. Across the cold and brackish waters of the Baltic, the English Porter was transferred, from a mild ale to a dark and complex lager that confounds definition. Immersed in dark, roasted malts and a bold citrus hop character, these big and contrasting flavors are brought together with the smoothness of a lager for a brew that’s bold, mysterious, and full of flavor. Batch #1

Lubiere (19735) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 20, 2019
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2019 A deep dark black ipa with a thick frothy lacing brown head. In aroma, sweet chocolate malt with light coffee notes and herbaceous character, light resinous hop, OK. In mouth, a sweet bitter chocolate with coffee grind, musty character, light peated notes, resinous floral hops, a tad unpleasant. Bottle is batch 1, probably 5 years old.

UPDATED: SEP 11, 2018 Dark brown almost black pour with quick tan foam. Caramel toasted malt with citrus hops. Tastes like a porter with sweet roasted malt flavors and a medium / heavy body, slick texture. The hoppy bitterness is a surprise and does not balance well to me. April 2012 Boston

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2018 Bomber. It pours black with a creamy tan head. Its aroma is roasted malt with notes of coffee, chocolate and a light citrus fruitiness. The taste is moderately bitter, while the mouth feel is thick on the tongue. Very warming.

bottle @ Liquor Barn / Lexington KY --- Aroma of malt. Clear dark brown with orange edges, deep tan two-finger head that never quits, dots and spots of lace. Taste is rich malt and toffee with a chewy body that avoids being thick or heavy. Medium fizz on the swallow leads to an edgy citrus hop finish that is leavened by it-never-left toffee. Well-balanced, complex, great body, an overall solid beer that I will drink again. (I started the bomber thinking I would rate and dump the rest, but not this one. Game on!)

Pours a finger of head on a dark brown body. The aroma is roasted malt and bright lemon, grapefruit and pine. The taste is creamy and citrus bitterness, an interesting, but good mixture. The texture is soft and smooth. It’s really enjoyable.

Pours a very deep brown/black color with an amazing tan, very cream head that has very strong staying power. Nose is very well balanced between a heavily toasted malt and a pungent citrus and bitter hoppiness. Flavor starts off a sweet caramel note but quickly transitions to a toasted Baltic porter flavor with a good dose of citrus and resiny hops. Body is very dense and high but very fine carbonation which is perfect. This beer had been aging a bit and seems really, really good with a little age (1-1.5 years). Overall a very good offering by sam.
