COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewing innovation is about asking "what if?". What if we gave an IPA a new identity and used some of our favorite West Coast hops, with their grapefruit, piney, & tropical fruit character, in a lager? The result is this boldly hoppy & and flavorful brew with the crisp smoothness of a lager. Cheers!

MALT VARIETIES Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend and Munich malt
HOP VARIETIES Zeus, Simcoe, Citra, Ahtanum, Cascade, Centennial, and Nelson Sauvin hops

UPDATED: MAR 14, 2019 First India Pale Lager for me. Part of the Spring '13 Variety Pack. Taste a lot like their regular Boston Lager, but with citrus hops added. Leans more towards a lager vs. IPA as far as characteristics go. Still, I would say this is as good as or better than the regular Boston Lager, but not as good as most average IPAs. I would consider this again though in the future, if they make it a seasonal or part of their standard collection.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2019 Yikes, found this rating from February 21, 2015. 'trapped at girlfriend's parents house. bottle says enjoy by july 2014. :(' Poured a kind of light copper color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was earthy hops, crisp grassy character here. Clean, easy to drink. Okay.

Dark golden pour with thick white foam. The lager malt is present in the nose and the taste, but I found the hops to overbalance. The idea is good and it gives the lager more depth that it might ordinarily have, but it’s an IPA in the end.

Dark golden to amber color with a moderate taupe colored head and decent lace. Aromas of sweet malt, orange zest, some tomato paste, and bread. Fairly crisp. Pale malt, light caramel, mild pepper, orange zest, grapefruit and resin. Good, but a few sharp edges. 2/13

Clear medium Amber color, tan head. Aromatic hops, Left Coast hopping with some fruit cocktail notes. Nice hoppy flavor too, resinous pine tar, bread dough, hints of orange blossom honey, good bitter follow. Quite quaffable!

April 22nd, 2014 - From the Hopology Collection comes the Samuel Adams Double Agent IPL, a smooth and mostly clear beer with a velvety creamy head, like a very well lathered shaving soap. The aroma is clean and crisp like a lager, but with a touch more sweetness than I’d normally expect, like grapefruit, with a touch of corn and lime juice, too. The flavor is much, much sweeter, with an intense carbonation, and a flash of hops and lime in the aftertaste. It is indeed a hoppy tasting lager, with a slight tropical lime-beer edge which I find a little off putting. But this would definitely serve as a porch chair drinker, with a smoothness to settle on hot summer days, but enough hops to engage.

Bottle. Copper in color with a thin white head and lacing. A hoppy citrus aroma with grapefruit and resinous pine flavorings. It was moderately bitter as well.

Pours a dark straw from a bottle, lots of lacing. Aroma of citrus fruits, flavor a thin watery lemon. Meh.
