Tasting Notes:

Kosmic Mother Funk Grand Cru is tart, funky, and complex with notes of dark fruits, cherry, cocoa & vanilla. The addition of a small amount of Belgian candi sugar adds a bit of smoothness and hint of sweetness to this beer.

Notes from the Brewers:

•This one-of-a-kind Belgian ale is fermented with multiple microorganisms including Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus and other wild critters found in the environment of our 150-year old Boston brewery.
•The unique yeasts impart layers of spicy, fruity, & bright tart notes to the beer. Aged in our Hungarian oak tuns, the porous character of the wood allows air to slowly seep in during aging creating micro-oxidation that smoothes any harsh flavors.
•Grand Cru often denotes a vintage of the highest quality or ‘the best of the best’. This release has been aging in our Barrel Room for just over a year.
•Kosmic Mother Funk is the soul of our Barrel Room Collection, blended to varying degrees in each of our five Belgian brews creating a distinct & complex character.

Pours brown with off-white head. Fantastic balanced sweet and sour flavor. Notes: old note from Denver Rare Beer Tasting '14.

Draught at the brewery. Murky light brown. Again, not much head. So doesn't look that good. All kinds of barrel, balsamic. Cherry and lemon...smells like it's going to be austere. Tart...like bracing acidity. There remains this underlying sweetness to provide some balance, but it's definitely sharp. Big barrel and almost chocolate note as well. So decent complexity.

Clear light burgundy. Nose has some slight funk. Taste is acidic but complex. This is very nice

Rating #2513 - 2016.05.04 - Sample at BrewExpo during CBC in Philadelphia. .Hazy reddish brown pour, medium white head. Aroma is super bretty, lots of yeast on the nose - sour cherries, wildflowers, honey, soapyness. Mouthfeel is clean, medium carbonation. Quite complex, the sourness is tempered with a fair amount of body, and lots of tart cherry. Stupid Tasty Flanders.

On tap at DRBT. Pours a dark copper with small frothy beige head that lasts. The aroma is oak, leather, vinegar, dark fruit. Thin body, similar flavors to nose, acidic, very sour, enjoyed this.

[2/4/17] Draught/Bottle at Extreme Beer Fest in Boston. Brown. Wood, cellar, fruitiness, sweetish-sour.

Looks like plum-colored glass. A few bubbles float on top. Smells like sour dark fruit and tastes the same but the flavor is weaker than the aroma. A great fruit-tasting-like beer nonetheless, if that’s your cup of tea.

On tap at oc ep, pours a murky brown / amber with a thin khaki head. Sweet aroma of brown sugar and cherries, light yeast. Very sweet, brown sugar and caramel with an underlying tart and sour. Not bad, pretty sweet.

Reddish brown pour with tart cherry and brown sugar aroma. Tart cherry flavor with some brown sugar, and some wood. Great beer.

FROTHINGSLOSH (11821) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 12, 2016
Sampled on draft at the Headkeeper this beer poured a black color with a small foamy beige head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was tart and sour with red wine and vinegar notes. The flavor was tart and sour with vinegar, soy sauce, cherry, red wine and a light yeasty note. Long finish. Medium body but undercarbonated.
