COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Yorona (69) - - SEP 19, 2021
UPDATED: SEP 19, 2021 Good looking in the glass with a thick, lingering beige head. Creamy mouthfeel. Medium body. Maybe slightly thin for an oatmeal stout but this doesn’t detract. Complex taste with cocoa, licorice and berries. So smooth, clean and easy to drink. A great, classic stout. Real quality for a reasonable price too.

dragnet101 (2331) - Birmingham, West Midlands, ENGLAND - SEP 17, 2021
UPDATED: SEP 17, 2021 Bottle from House of Trembling Madness, online. Pours a very dark brown, with small beige head Aroma is sweet, roasty, chocolate, light fruity berry note, some ash. There is a luscious creamy mouthfeel to this stout despite being light to medium in body and a fine carbonation which is superb. Taste wise its semi-sweet, roast, chocolate, liquorice, light fruitiness. Excellent.

ctipping (3902) - Florida, USA - APR 9, 2021
UPDATED: APR 9, 2021 355 mL bottle. Black with a little transparency. Smells of roasted malt with a light creamy aroma. A touch metallic. Tastes of roasted malt with accompanying bitterness. Cut by a creamy, bright flavor in the back end. Medium body, if that. Very easy to drink. Simple and tasty, but doesn't knock my socks off.

jjsint (6133) - Leicester, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - FEB 3, 2021
UPDATED: FEB 3, 2021 500ml bottle delivered from Blue Boar and drunk at home. Very dark brown, opaque with a ring of tan/khaki head. Some chocolate in the aroma, some coffee, some ash. Sweet taste with a light grape tartness, a touch of black pepper. Slightly watery body buoyed up by fairly heavy carbonation. It is a decwnt beer by any standard but I'm surprised by the mega-high rates.
