COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saranac Caramel Porter is a robust, flavorful porter reminiscent of a by-gone era. True to brewing tradition, we've used dark caramel malt as well as Fuggles & East Kent Goldings hops for a smooth, yet slightly bitter, roasted flavor. Look for hints of real caramel used in brewing this delicious brew. Enjoy.

OnTheTrail (1006) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - DEC 4, 2021
UPDATED: DEC 4, 2021 Pours medium copper brown, some translucency. Big tan head. Aroma of roast malt, some caramel and toffee, some dark fruit. Taste is caramel, vanilla, moderately sweet, some hops bite.

2OLD4BS (931) - west windsor, New Jersey, USA - MAR 25, 2021
UPDATED: MAR 25, 2021 This porter is very smooth and mellow. Caramel flavor is the main driving force. Very nice caramel aftertaste. Well done!

LowBrau (230) - Tonawanda, New York, USA - APR 3, 2020
UPDATED: APR 3, 2020 Dark brown with a small light tan head. Aroma is luxurious - caramel, butterscotch, vanilla, pipe tobacco built on a Guinness-like backbone. Smooth mouthfeel. Medium-light across the board - sweet, sour, bitter.

Cakes (695) - New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 9, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 9, 2019 Twelve ounce bottle. Kind of generic. Taste of malts, barley with a medium thickness moutfeel. The light caramel flavor stands out the most. I love porters, but this is just an average one.

FROMTHEBOTTLE (114) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 8, 2019
UPDATED: MAY 8, 2019 Was hoping for more. fairly disappointing really. Was missing the earthy tones and any hint of chocolate/cocoa.

matty (527) - Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 2, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2018 12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep amber color, almost ruby red with a tan finger thick head that settles to a film. Aroma is a little sickeningly sweet, almost like candy. Medium-light body. Flavor is sweet - too sweet for me. Caramel and a little toasted malt comes through. Finish is still sweet. Not great.

chinchill (6213) - South Carolina, USA - NOV 2, 2018
[from 2012 notes] 12 oz bottle left out to warm for about 15 minutes, then served in a snifter. A: pours a deep mahogany with a slight haze. The head is tan and short-lived, excepting a nice ring and some 'islands'. Nothing subtle about the caramel in either the aroma or the flavor: it dominates both. The caramel seems a bit artificial in the aroma but more natural in the flavor. There is a solid medium-roast malt background, but this is not as dark or robust as it should be in a porter, especially one with this much additional flavor. A bit sweet, but in keeping with the strong caramel presence. M: Medium body with a semi-dry finish. Ideally, this should be smoother. O: uniquely flavored beer with a pronounced caramel aspect. I really enjoy this one from time to time, although it is one of those "one is enough" beers.

Chocolate and caramel aroma with bread. Pours a very dark amber color with small wispy white head. Slight roast in flavor with caramel bread and chocolate. Medium light bodied with medium co2, sweet chocolate finish. One of the better dessert style beers I’ve had. Very well balanced and not artificial tasting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

BlackHaddock (12580) - The County Time Forgot, Shropshire, ENGLAND - JAN 10, 2018
12 oz bottle into a lovely Kasteel chalice on 9th Jan 2018 while on holiday in California. Brown with a tanned topping, nose had malty molasses as did the taste, caramel to the fore. Thought the beer sweet and thin, not overly impressed.

Whoisgalt (2) - Hamburg, New York, USA - DEC 8, 2017 does not count
Very sweet with the carmel flavor dominating the palate. Its drinkable but "more Carmel than porter". There are far better porters than this one.
