Tried this at the brewery on my way through New Ulm. A decent pale ale. Bready and light with some floral hop crispness.

Generic, bland, better than Sam Adams though. Biscuit with a touch of hops. Boring.

I decided to give their Pale Ale a try. While it’s supposedly "steeped in German heritage"--which seems a bit odd for an English style--it can definitely be described as an American pale ale. It has more body than I expected and an East Kent Golding dry finish, which is rather pronounced. While perhaps a little thinner than most locally brewed versions, it’s actually not too bad--in fact, it’s surprisingly tasty--and fair representation of the style. I’m curious to try a few more of their efforts. Serving type: bottle

Not among the best, but for its dry hoppiness and decent maltiness, its not that bad.

Pours hazy orange with white head, aroma of some floral and grass, touch of sweet citrus. Taste is some citrus, grassy middle with some caramel, and a relatively sweet finish. Not a bad pale ale!

Bottle, pours a clear orange-gold body with off-white head. Perfumey aroma of citrus, grass, and floral hops with an undertone of sweet malts. Flavor is similar, with a light bitterness throughout the palate. Smooth mouthfeel; nicely carbonated. Finishes dry with a hop bitterness. Not bad - solid and very sessionable.

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2010 One more from the sampler pack. Pale Ale was fairly normal, nothing wrong with that.

Amber in color. Active, small bubbles. Hoppy, floral/pine-like aroma. Bitterness is moderate.

Of the pale ales I’ve tried, I can certainly say this: "It’s a Pale ale". Keep your wits about you and when you’re at the store looking for some tasty brew and you spy this, just KEEP ON WALKING.....right to the section that has Blatz. Then laugh as you buy a case of God’s sweetest nectar for what you would have (over) paid for a six pack of this tripe. Don’t question it!

I am editing my review (1-2-09) , because I know how to review beers better now then I did on 8-12-08. (except for my choice of glass; I only had this one on hand at my friend’s place). Poured into New Belgium Globe Glass. Color is a yellow bronze with light head that leaves some decent lace. Smell is of floral hops with notes of carmel malts. The taste is quite ’citrusy’. The floral notes come back and are much stronger. When I was drinking it, I thought I was drinking an IPA and then I looked at the category and it said it was an IPA, which made a lot of sense. This beer is a lot stronger than a regular pale ale. The malts are at a medium level, nothing overdone here. They taste kind of nutty. Mourhfeel is very smooth, but bitter. The beer becomes very creamy at the end. This beer is great! It is definitely one of my favorite from Schells. It is an IPA that is easy to drink and can definitely have a few in one sitting!
