UPDATED: DEC 29, 2021 Deep brilliant red, tears in the glass. Huge alcoholic, fortified wine nose; vintage port, X-mas fruitcake. Sweet, but somehow not cloying. Diverse red fruits, all dried & preserved, seeped in alcohol and dried again (that's how it tastes, not how it's made!). Thick, oozy, rich and warming. That is also how to rate it, but... great as it is, I've had Polish meads that were at least as good and sold for a third of the price.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2020 On tap at Schramm’s, pours a dark mahogany. Aroma reveals intense bourbon barrels upfront, with gentle cocoa and a hint of vanilla. Flavour and a full of intense bourbon upfront, followed by tart cherries, a little vanilla, and some cocoa. Beautiful depth and complexity to this. The bourbon accentuates the cherry beautiful. Elegant.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2018 A dark burgundy red mead with aroma of sweet cherries, sweet chocolate, maraschino, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet mix of cherries, chocolate, light alcohol, grapeskins, musty notes, very nice and complex.

ctipping (3902) - Florida, USA - MAY 29, 2018
Bottle. Deep brown in the glass, but it's red in the light. Smells of cherry, lots of vanilla, honey, and some whiskey. Tastes of sweet honey and some tart cherry behind it. Eventually the cherry becomes sweet as well and the vanilla becomes more prominent. Whiskey aftertaste. Heavy and sweet. Very good, but the whiskey flavor lends a roughness that isn't present in the regular version.

Bottle courtesy of Biggsbowler. Pours deep red leaving plenty of legs on the glass with a swirl. Mellow yet clear sweet cherry nose with vanilla and a hint of dusty cocoa. Very light floral honey, earth and charred wood. Sweet and slightly sour taste. Round fairly viscous tart mouthfeel with a clear kick of booze. Very good but I must confess I prefer regular statement before that. Vanilla and chocolate distract from the lovely cherries and honey. Looking forward to a reserve version with schaerbeekse cherries though.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2018 Pour at meadery. Looks ruby red. Nice notes of bourbon, vanilla, cherry, and cocoa which seem to waft up at different times. Hides it’s booze well. Somehow it all works.

phaleslu (14680) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 27, 2018
Pour at Schramm's. Pours a nice deep red wine color with legs when swirled. There's a definite bourbon character in here, adding oak and warmth to cherry, grapes, honey, vanilla, and cocoa. Medium-bodied, with a warming and sweet and slightly tangy mouthfeel that's a little dry and warm in the aftertaste. Dessert mead. Didn't hit me like The Statement did, but it's a fun variant.
