COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This past winter, we siphoned some of our spicy and rugged seasonal IPA into bourbon barrels. Before sealing them for a nearly three-month hibernation, we dosed the vessels with whole-cone Comet and East Kent Golding hops-a nod to how traditional IPAs were prepped for sea voyages. The explosive aroma seesaws between tropical fruit and vanilla, and an overall sweetness tames the barrels’ kick, which holds the remnant spice of rye.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2019 Bottle. Pours amber with an off white head. A little bit of bourbon, some pretty obvious oxidation, a little toffee, and faint flowery notes. OK, this is a 6 year old IPA. So with that in mind, I'll say this really isn't that bad. Between 2 guys we drank probably 16 ounces of the 25 ounce bottle and that was fine.

750ml bottle from the brewery. Aromas of wood, bourbon and malt. Clear medium amber with a foamy white head. Boozy and bitter from the start although without the bite you’d expect from the aroma. Lots of bitterness in the middle with an earthy, woody quality. The bourbon really stands out and offsets the bitterness with a sweet alcoholic taste with a touch of vanilla. Lots of sweet molasses and bitterness in the finish. I fear that I held on to this one too long and it might have been even better a year ago, but it seems to have held up quite well regardless.

Rated on 9-14-2013 at Fort Wayne, IN RateBeer gathering (Corked and caged bottle) This beer, courtesy of patrick767, pours a small vanilla head that is mostly lasting, transparent amber body, very little carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is vanilla, citrus, sweet, fruity, and alcohol. The flavor is citrus, vanilla, bourbon, and some rye. This beer is medium bodied. Overall, a very good beer that is worth trying.

"Very excited to try this, though the jury is out on barrel aging IPAs. Generally, not an improvement, though I really enjoyed the uniquness of, say, BA Ruination. This one was vanilla, booze, and fruity hops on the nose. Nice color, smooth. The flavor seems a bit confused. Faded hops mixing with sweet bourbon, some bitterness and fruit but it tails off, even becoming a touch watery. Overall, really cool to try, but a way more expensive yet not as good as the base beer experiment."

Disgustingly bitter. Undrinkable. For those hopped up weirdos only. Save your money....... , earthy

Bottle shared while staying with a friend near Sacramento. Clear golden yellow with off-white head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, vanilla, light citrus and floral notes. Tastes of light bourbon, oak, vanilla, citrus, pine, rye. Medium body with a dry finish. Low carbonation. Probably better fresh but it hasn’t aged terribly.

Draft at Stone Oakquinox 2014. Murky amber pour, with an off white head. Bread, vanilla sweetness, oak, notes of fruit and pine, bourbon, and some spicy rye. Pretty tasty. Glad to have tried it.

Bottle shared at The Bruery - thanks! Pours clear, amber-gold with a creamy, white cap. The nose holds tangy berries, wood, leaves, honey and toffee. Medium sweet flavor, lightly oxidised, with dry wood and toffee, dry orange. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Light warmth on the finish with more dry woodiness, toasty toffee, leafy bitterness. Fair.

This is a awesome beer. Too bad it isn't more readily available. Very smooth!

tap at the Chico brewpub Aug 2013, 55 IBUs - This brew has an inviting aroma led by bourbon and vanilla. The flavor starts with good, bourbony, vanilla sweetness and leads into ample hops bitterness that combines with the vanilla to linger pleasantly in the finish. It’s full bodied and extremely enjoyable, easily my favorite of the beers I had on tap at the brewery.
