6/6/2016 -- from notes: 10oz on tap at BC's. Labeled 12.4% on the menu, but bartender says that this is the 11.9% Ohio version. Up front, definitely big chocolate character, much moreso than any of your typical stout flavors. Really, kind of tastes like an aged chocolate stout. Has some mild flavors of oxidization. Drinks kind of sweet, mild bitter, a lot less roasty. Alcohol is hidden pretty well. Drinks like maybe 10%. Kind of tastes like what I'd expect an aged chocolate beer to taste like, but bartender says keg is labeled from April. Hazy brown color. Thin tan head, some loose splotches of lace. Medium-plus body, kind of silky texture. Mild slick. Interesting, sweeter, chocolate-forward imperial stout, but not sugary, so it's still tolerable.

A bit mild for an Imperial Stout, more sweet than anything, putting forth a whole lotta milk chocolate and caramel without much bitterness or booze to back it up. Smells lovely, with rich mocha notes coming up from the deep, viscous black pour. Yet the taste comes across too syrupy and tame for a massive Impy stout, mostly one-note with sugary chocolate the dominant flavor. A modest bitterness adds heft to the back end, and dark fig and raisin notes peep through on the finish, yet the fade is mostly sweet and easygoing. Texture seems thin as well.

On tap at Gillys Fine Wine and Craft Beer in Rockville, MD, where (unusual for them) it was served too cold. Opaque, very dark brown with a khaki head and good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, mild mocha, licorice and leather. Taste of roasted malt, mild mocha, licorice, nuts and leather. Medium/full body and medium/high carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
