COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sixpoint Brownstone is based upon one of my favorite and most popular homebrew recipes; an instant classic that I’ve been brewing since my college days. The most distinguishing characteristic of the Brownstone is its aroma of fresh-baked bread, which is accomplished by using generous portions of classic Belgian specialty malt. In addition, I use a very small portion of the same malt you would find in a stout, which lends a roasted quality in addition to the usual chocolate and nutty qualities you might find in a typical brown ale. Although brown ales typically emphasize malty sweetness, I find a balance must remain if the hop bitterness is diminished. As a result, I carefully blend ten different malt varieties and keep the Brownstone only mildly hopped. Instead of hop bitterness providing the balance, I achieve a balance among the flavors of malt: the deep caramel and malt flavors are balanced by notes of rich toffee, chocolate, a slight nuttiness and a roasted tang. It is a true session ale.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2019 This is a backlog rating from 2012 from a can, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are toasted malts, chocolate, caramel, earthy hops, slightly above average brown.

Dark copper to umber color, with a taller, stable ecru colored head. Aromas of pale to slightly toasted malts along with a citric zest hops component. Thin lightly metallic feel. Lightly sweet, and a bit nutty in flavor. Rather bitter in the finish and linger which takes away most if not all the enjoyable qualities. Needs more body for me. A bitter, watery amber. 5/12

Tap @ Rattle N Hum: Brown color with light brown head. Aroma of bread per the description definitely there. All around great brown ale. Easy to drink with a slight ESB type finish.

Can. Pours a cloudy brown with large tan head that lasts. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, and hazelnuts. Medium mouth with roasted malt, caramel and light bitter finish, good.

Mmm, a delightful brown! Very good deep brown pour w/ a very good tan head that leaves lacing. The aroma is subtle but provides a nice coco malt scent. The taste is similar - heavy w/ the malts upfront & then finishes a tad bitter. Exquisite mouthfeel for a brown & overall definitely one to try!

7/24/2014. From can. Dark brown with a tan head. Malty aromas with caramel, hops and dark fruit. Not overly hoppy, but with a good balance of hops and fruit.

Pours a nice brown color with off-white head. Roasted malt, caramel malt, chocolate, and a bit of sweetness on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes very clean for a brown ale.

Received this in a trade and have fallen in love with this brewery. Problem is that they don’t ship to NC/SC!! Looking forward to trying their staple beers in the future!

Pours dark amber with ruby reflects and medium tan head. Light hoppy nose. Caramel, roasted malts, biscuits and some piney hops. Medium carbonation. Long bitter and dry finish. Really good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
