A delicious dark ale with an intriguing roasty character. It is rich and flavorful with a hint of bittersweet chocolate.

Draft at the Gatlinburg brewpub. Black as expected, but little to no head. This is pretty lacking in body, especially for style. It does have a decent, thick choco-malt flavor profile, but maybe a bit too sweet for my particular taste. (#6620, 5/18/2017)

5oz on tap at Smoky Mountain in Gatlinburg. Poured a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma was light chocolate, malt. roast. Flavor was similar. Light bittersweet notes. Probably one of the better ones I had here.

Keg at Smoky Mountain Turkey Creek, 16/02/15. Dark chestnut brown with a moderate light beige head that retains well. Nose is caramel, nutty, vanilla, toasted brown sugars. Taste comprises pecan nut, caramel, toffee, sweet licks, malt tones. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Mediocre porter lacks both depth and direction.

Draught at the Smoky Mountain Brewery, Pigeon Forge, TN.
Dark reddish brown colour with a small light tan head. Roasted malt, brown sugar and sweetness in the aroma. Mild bitterness, roasted malt, chocolate sweetness and mild medicine notes in the flavour. Thin.

Pours crimson brown with a rocky tan head. The aroma has cocoa, cream, caramel, vanilla, apples and a light bit of sourness. It has a medium body that’s crisp and has frothy soft carbonation. The flavor begins with dry milk chocolate, roasty malt, light spice and vanilla. The finish has some earthy hops and a berry fruit sort of thing. Decent porter.

Decent but not great. I really like porters to have more complexity than this.

On tap, last beer of the bunch. Pours a dark brown, with white head. Aroma of chocolate malt, tad roasty. Taste is chocolate, bitter coffee, a little to light bodied, and could use more chocate and less bitterness. Not too bad.
