Not a terribly complex doppelbock, but very smooth. Alcohol in the aroma, but not obvious in the flavor or finish. This is a very good doppelbock overall. It may be more suited for a 'beginning' doppelbock drinker, but can certainly be enjoyed by a doppelbock veteran.

3.7
Arbitrage411 (73) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 8, 2021
UPDATED: DEC 8, 2021 Opaque cola color with amber hues when held up to light. Beige 1 finger head, foamy with residual lacing. Chocolate dark malt on the nose and taste. Not at all bitter. Bread like, fruit cake sweet. Good example of a Doppelbock. Subtle alcohol onset. Persistent head over light finish.

3.8
damzz (804) - Methuen, Massachusetts, USA - SEP 9, 2021
UPDATED: SEP 9, 2021 Pours a dark brown with an off white head that dissolves to a thin ring leaving spot lacing. Nose is caramel, raisins. Taste s sweet - caramel, raisins, toasted malt with a bitterness that enhances the taste lasts a moment. After taste is dry with a lingering shadow of the taste. 12 oz bottle BBY 3/22 Thanks, Spaten, for exporting 12 oz bottles unlike other German and Euro brewers with 11.2 oz. The SA is NOT metric and we should be subjected to the machinations of the EU.

hapjydeuce (1034) - Carlsbad, California, USA - NOV 25, 2020
UPDATED: NOV 25, 2020 Bottled. Amber, light toasted head, medium carbonation. Nose of toasted raisin bread, plum, caramel. Flavor is tuggernuts between spicy hop bitterness and sweet smoked malt. Finishes with metal, smoke, nutmeg.

2OLD4BS (931) - west windsor, New Jersey, USA - NOV 10, 2020
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2020 Caramel flavor combined with dark roasted fruits are the main ingredients. Tastes like a typical German dark beer. Decent.

CiderTasty49 (3) - - MAY 12, 2020 does not count
UPDATED: MAY 12, 2020 Color ámbar oscuro. Aroma a tostado, sabor a toffe y levemente caramelo, justo amargor. Buen equilibrio pero no es sorprendente

Idiosynkrasie (13823) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - JAN 2, 2020
UPDATED: JAN 2, 2020 330ml bottle. Clear, dark chestnut colour with ruby glimmer and small to average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige head. Sweet-ish, dark malty aroma, notes of malt lozenge, caramel, some toffee. Taste is sweet-ish and toasty, minimally nutty, dark malty, notes of malt lozenge, caramel, some toffee, a touch of nougat, minimal hop bitterness. Oily texture, smooth and soft palate, fine and gentle, soft carbonation. Good!

ianwelby (3105) - Hamilton, SCOTLAND - DEC 30, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 30, 2019 Dark reddish brown beer, thin head. Smells of malt and toffee. Flavour has a bit of those too with it being quite dry and toasty in the finish and the sweetness fading out altogether. It's decent but it'd feel better balanced if the sweetness kept up.

4.2
riggsfc61 (1724) - Franklin, North Carolina, USA - DEC 20, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 20, 2019 Found out of bottle. Pours a dark red with short lasting white foam. Really enjoyable malt flavors. Great option for winter.

3.6
mabuzzer (1811) - Hamilton, SCOTLAND - DEC 19, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 19, 2019 330ml bottle. Dark Reddish brown with a moderate white head. Big roasted malt aroma, flavour is caramel, a little grass, and very much belies the ABV
