Stag Beer has been brewing “Golden Quality Since 1851.” At the 2001 Great American Beer Festival, that quality was recognized with the Gold Medal as the Best American-Style Lager. Just more proof of what Midwesterners have been saying for years, “Stag Beer makes thirst a pleasure.”

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2019 10/12/19 - Maumelle, Ar - Lake Liquor - 12 oz can - bargain at 10.49 a 12. Pale golden, thin, bubbly white head. Neutral aroma, hint of fresh lake water. Typical budget lager flavor, nothing offensive, some grainy notes, a touch of honey sweetness. Crisp mouthfeel. Remember as a kid, in the 70s a friend from Illinois telling me all about this beer, it is what his Dad always drank.

rouhlas (5549) - Thessaloniki, GREECE - AUG 31, 2018
From can at 2nd Shift Brewing, STL. Clear pale yellow golden color with white head. Malty aroma, grain, straw. Sweet and light to moderate bitter taste. Light thin to oily body with soft carbonation.

foyle (664) - North Carolina, USA - JAN 21, 2018
Poured from 12 oz can into pint glass. A thin white head drops quickly with a small amount of lacing. Moderate carbonation streaming in the glass. Pale clear straw color, very mild grain aroma. Flavor of lightly toasted malt & bread dough, maybe a hint of hops. Finish is crisp & refreshing. Nothing that either excites or offends with this one.

dekester1 (375) - Town of Maple Creek, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 6, 2018
Poured a light yellow-gold with actually a decent head that faded to lacing. The appearance was the highlight of this stuff. Smell as of grains and cheap hops. Taste was similar with a heavy grain (corn) flavoring followed by a slightly sour mild hop finish. Overall, tastes very similar to Pabst's Schmidt beer offering. Relatively low quality lager that could possibly work as a lawnmower/yardwork thirst quencher in the summer.

Picked up 24 oz can in St. Louis. Thanks for the memories!

Pours a very clear pale straw color. Very carbonated. About two fingers white head, good retention, good lacing.

Aroma is not a lot. Corn, probably and that's about it.

Taste is corn probably. Sweet. Mildly metallic.

Mouthfeel is medium body. Metallic. Not bitter, but an odd aftertaste, perhaps a dirty feel.

Overall, it's not bad. I like the can, I won't say what I thought when I saw the can. But hey, it is what it is. I wouldn't buy it again, but if you see it I would recommend getting it because it does have limited distribution.

balloonbuffoon (1125) - - JAN 20, 2017
"Apr0317" imprinted on the bottom of a 24floz can purchased for ~$1.25 in the St. Louis area. Consumed several times in the past, for this review 01.20.2017. Stag webpage states an ABV of 4.6%. Poured into a standard pint glass. In brief, the main characteristic separating this beer from other macro-style American pale lagers is that it is less sweet. There is a bit of diacetyl flavor too. While it ain’t great, it ain’t not too shabby either for what it’s worth.

JStax (10651) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - JUN 26, 2016
12 ounce can. The beer is a clear yellow with a velvety head of white foam. The aroma has notes of corn husk, vanilla, and dried grass. Taste is sweet, grainy, and corny. Medium body, moderate carbonation, almost creamy in mouthfeel. Almost as though it’s a nitro beer.

Light, light, very light lager. It’s like you drink water. Not bad, but it’s just beer for hot summer days.

ordybill (1815) - Douglasville, Georgia, USA - DEC 19, 2015
Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a clear golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is big on grain and rice(?). The flavor is your basic AAL with grass, grain and some mild hops. Overall, a fair AAL.
