COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
20th Anniversary Encore Series: Stone 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA is a dry-bodied ale that’s powerfully spicy with an earthy aroma. On the palate, peppery hops assert themselves early and often, with malt sweetness and a light biscuit flavor making a brief appearance before a long, complex and decisively bitter finish. There is one thing decidedly San Diego about this beer, and that’s its aggressive dose of hops. 20th Anniversary Encore Series: Stone 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA is brewed to enjoy fresh but true to its origin, ages especially well on a six-month long ocean voyage.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2020 Cask at GBBF, Earl’s Court on 06/08/2010. This beer was dubbed “This Beer Tastes Better on Tap”, and I’m pretty certain it was this beer, based on ABV, description, hop and malt varieties. A blinding IIPA, with huge wafts of peppery, herbal hops, using English varieties in all new ways. There was also a big malty sweetness to this. Not saccharine, but definitely big.

Many thanks to Erzengel for sharing! A hazy orange golden beer with a mid-sized most good lasting off-white head. Aroma of intense hoppy orange fruits, resinous hops, apricot. Taste of apricot, bitter orange fruits, resins, red malt, long bitter finish.

Many thanks to Werckmeister for organising this bottle. Great floral fresh nose. The beer starts deep and intense. Fresh-floral, moderate sweetish but very nice and round. Fresh long floral, moderate bitter, nice floral sweetness in the aftertaste. Long smooth and mild. Great.

From bottle the pour is very cloudy with a thin white head. It thins quickly is very lacy. The aroma is floral, hoppy, citrus and slightly sweet on the backend of the nose. The taste bright, with a toasted notes in the back end of the throat. The roasted grains are very prevalent, but are nicely balanced with the hops. The finish malty and a bitter.

Cloudy orange pour with a two finger off white head that has good retention. Aroma is full of caramel, biscuit, planty and spicy hops and English yeasty spiciness, a good amount of spicy citrus, toffee, thistle and boozy warmth. Flavor is full of toffee, biscuit, caramel and toasted bread, spicy, floral and bright/spicy hops and a decent wallop of booziness. Medium to heavy body, chewy, with a medium, kinda sharp carbonation, moderate to strong boozy warmth and light hop acid bite. Pretty damn tasty stuff, seems more like a hoppy Barleywine than IIPA to me, but either way, I like it. I’d definitely like it more in November, than late June though.

Bottle at tasting. Golden pour. Aroma of orange zest, citrus, malt and caramel. Taste has mandarine, orange zest, citrus, some pine and grassy hop. Quite nice.

From bomber to pint glass. Hazy orange sunset with moderate white head. Dirt and orange are central to both the aroma and palate. Semi-dry finish really brings out the earthy hops. There is restrained juice throughout - as though it were being squeezed out of a hop bag at the last minute.
