COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barley wines are traditionally hefty brews, but ours is downright excessive. The huge maltiness of this beer is only tamed by an equally prodigious addition of hops, creating a rich, slightly sweet, caramel-hued ale infused with assertive bitterness and bright hop notes, all culminating in a pleasing dryness. While it will evolve into an even more glorious brew with age, this beer’s delicious onslaught of flavors will seriously challenge your ability to wait any longer to drink it.

Svesse (12015) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - MAR 13, 2021
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2021 (Bottle) Dark amber colour, slightly hazy, with frothy tan head. Malty, hoppy nose with caramel, treacle-toffee, resin, orange peel, pink grapefruit and lots of hops. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of caramel, treacle-toffee, resin, grapefruit, rye bread, a touch of liquorice and a generous resiny, citric bitterness in the finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness. A bit unbalanced and aggressive, but really tasty with a solid hop presence. Very nice.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2020 2015 edition, still delivering a bitter drying finish after 64 months in my 64th year. A gusher and lots of up front foam. Fun stuff added on its solid BW base.

Keg at BrewDog Shepherds Bush in 2016. Amber colour with an offwhite head. Aroma of grassy hop, caramel, burnt sugar and some vanilla. Tinned fruit, chewy malt and resinous hop bitterness in the flavour. Great lingering notes.

Bottle. It poured an amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was of caramel, malts, some hops, dried fruits, bread and toffee. The taste was similar to the aroma with more caramel, malts, hops, dried fruits, bread, toffee, alcohol with medium carbonation and a nice dry aftertaste. Good stuff.

22 oz bottle 2015 vintage. After three years it’s pretty in your face. Malt forward and has swimming hops. Quite sweet with some brown sugar and aged hops. Alcohol is really there.

Bottle, thank you Tim for this! Pours light brown, not really foamy at all, some beige foam still there. Nose is sweetish, caramelly, some oxidisation and old but still potent hops. Taste has good bitterness, nicely mellowed, light smoke there also, malty and sturdy base. Mellowed together nicely, has aged quite well. Good stuff.

bottle, old rating - Pours deep amber with a small head. It smells of caramel malt, resin, alcohol, and dark fruit. The intense flavor has strong resinous hops backed by a big malty profile. Alcohol is noticeable but pretty overwhelmed by the other flavors. Full bodied. Excellent beer.

Bottle from Systembolaget, 2015 vintage . Pours dark amber with a nice creamy beige head. Grass, burnt caramel, hints of vanilla, dark fudge. Slightly bitter finish with more burnt caramel and vanilla. A little bit rough but that feels like a good thing here. Nice!
