UPDATED: AUG 24, 2020 Old Guardian (vintage 2012) was my final beer at a tasting session at Aces & Ales in Las Vegas. The bartender suggested this one from a number of barleywines available on tap. It arrived an attractive dark amber and had a full covering of light tan foam. I immediately picked up the ripe fruit smell before taking a drink. And that drink followed with more of the ripe fruit, malt, cereal, karo syrup and something field. Enjoyable, I hope to locate again.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2020 April 17, 2020 - bottle, 2012 vintage, as part of the 2012 barley wine battle royale. Orangish brown pour with large head. Potent aroma of caramel, malt, dark fruit and light spice. Taste was consistent with the aroma, but a mild bitter finish.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2020 Bomber. Wine Rack, Sheffield. 2016 vintage. 11%. Soft haze on a reddy, pale copper colour. Dense, messy, off white head is lasting and almost fully lacing. Nose has ginger biscuit malt. Fruited loaf. Privet leaf. Hint of pine. Lacquer. Polished leather. Touch of booze. Bit of a Christmas cake vibe going here. Taste is sweet and fruity, with a pretty punchy, earthy, tart fruit bitterness. Smooth and fully rounded on the palate. Fine carbonation. Lingering leafy bitterness to finish. Never feels the ABV. Great stuff.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2019 2015 vintage. On tap at the Stone Brewing Taproom, Berlin on 23-May-2019. Clear amber in colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of dark fruit, citrus and pine. Full body and soft carbonation. Taste of sweet malt, caramel, dark fruit and floral hops. Good healthy hop addition masks the sweetness well. Medium bitterness. An excellent beast of a barley wine.

Jabah (2479) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - MAR 5, 2019
UPDATED: MAR 5, 2019 2011...12%- A darker, heavier barleywine. Medium orange-light brown appearance. Has some decent hops to it and good alcohol bite. Nice buzz on a single full glass! Had to divide this into two sittings. Sort of basic in the flavor, otherwise would be a 9...but not as complex as some stronger belgians, etc. Mostly barley, slight caramel malt, and a little fruit....ended by some citrusy hop. Like a very strong/imperial IPA. A fine addition to the Stone family.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2019 Five-year-old cellared 2014 vintage on tap at the Farmhouse Tap House in Burlington, Vt. It pours a murky auburn color with a thick super-creamy beige head and residual lacing. Aroma: brown sugar, malt vinegar. Flavor: caramel, plums, pears, molasses brown bread, raisins, with some bitterness at the end to balance the sweetness. Mouthfeel: medium- to full-bodied, a creamy and slick finish.
