UPDATED: SEP 11, 2021 330ml bottle, but I’ve had this for so long I’ve no idea where it came from. Poured a murky medium brown with a short-lived, fizzy tan head. The aroma is malt, red berry fruits and boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a rich but slightly light, fruity, earthy, mineral, dry oak, boozy alcohol palate. Medium bodied with lively initial carbonation which dissipated to virtually nothing very quickly. I kept this cellared for 7 years. It wasn’t worth it.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2021 *Rating overgezet 2020* Het is een oranjerood bier met een dun schuim. De smaak is zoet fruitig en houtachtig met tonen van bourbon.

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2021 330 mL bottle. Murky brown body. Smells of bourbon, fruity yeastiness, alcohol, and oak. Tastes quite fruity and bright, despite a hefty bourbon flavor permeating. The bourbon is corn-heavy, too. Oak and some alcohol and astringency. Oaky and bourbony finish. Heavy, boozy, slow to drink. My description sounds like a train wreck, but it somehow comes together pretty well.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2021 Lot C 8 10 (2010) Brown appearance with burgundy hues and a white head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, oak, dark fruit, mild spice and light herbal/floral notes. Similar flavor, adding moderate sweetness, mild bitterness and light spice. Smooth mouthfeel with ample carbonation and a pleasant finish. Held up really well.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2020 Vintage 2014. Bottled 9/11/2016. Pours reddish brown with small head. Lovely nose on bourbon and red fruits. Very complex, sweet, fruity, BA (just enough, not overaged). This is magnificent, just perfect and therefor hard to rate. Not necessarily a Xmas beer in my opinion.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2020 Vintage 2014: Muddy brownish color and a nice off-white head. Dried fruits, plum and nice cask flavors.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2020 What I love about Struise is that the moment you uncap one of their bottles, you know you're in good hands. Out of the bottle wafts an incredibly rich aroma, with that distinctive house character of brown sugar, tobacco, and spice. Murky cedar wood color with a pillowy tan head. The aroma so Belgian yet bombastic. It reminds me of sitting on Carlo's porch as he smoked a big cigar. Raisins, prunes, a veritable fruit cake, drenched in beautiful port wine. Soft custardy vanilla, clove, nutmeg and cinnamon. I have been sniffing this beer for 10 minutes. The flavor is exactly what I expected. Super smooth, balanced. Light carbonation. The sweetness of dried fruits, paired with creamy caramel flan and a burst of holiday spice. A slight fruity sourness, like a pop of cherry creates enough contrast on the finish to not make this cloying. Dangerously easy to drink at 10% ABV.
