UPDATED: JUN 7, 2019 Backlog, bottle 4-5 years ago that pours a black color with a medium beige head. Notes are pine needles, cocoa, dark malts, nuts, and herbs. Medium bodied with a hoppy finish. A touch of heat in the finish.

22 oz bottle sampled at a tasting from notes. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, chocolate, earthy bitterness, citrus and green hop character, a hint of ash, pretty solid black IPA.

Pretty good IPA. Very delayed and muted hoppy bitterness but it's certainly there. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a nice dark brown to black with a beige head of foam. Good retention. The aroma was surprisingly a little caramelly with a subdued earthy hop profile. The taste starts with that sweet notes, but finishes dry and herbal. Medium body and moderate carbonation.

About average for this style. Black IPAs are hit or miss for me, so this falls near the border. Decent amount of hops, though I prefer more of a malt balance. Aroma has some mild citrus and pine, but overpowered by some kind of musty smell. Glad I tried this in the winter mix-pack bundle, but wouldn’t really want to sample this in a bomber or growler.

black color; citrusy hops and roasted malt aroma; citrusy hops on a medium bodied roasted malt base

BierMeHoos (804) - Maryland, USA - MAR 31, 2015
Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Appearance is black, opaque, and khaki head. Aroma is floral, piney, and citrus hops. Taste is same, but with caramel malt flavor. Palate is medium to full. I don't love this style as much as others do, but still decent.

Damico (3146) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 29, 2015
Pours thick dark black unclear with a creamy beige head. Aroma brings fresh piney hops so nice in the nose. Flavor brings roasted malts and piney hops blended on the palate smoothly and rich.

12 oz bottle from Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. Really warms the bones and has enough exotic stuff in it to keep you guessing for a long time. Explore it if you get a chance.

Pours black with a small, dense head. Pretty typical for a black IPA--lots of citrus hops on the nose and taste with a decent malt backbone. Good dry finish. Not an outstanding black IPA, but one of the better 12 pack beers I’ve had.
