UPDATED: OCT 9, 2020 Firm, subtle sourness, earthy aromas. The taste is an extension of its smell, but with quite some herbal notes. Liquorice, plenty of roasted caramel. Creamy, fruity. Very rich, well balanced, exciting. Good dark ale - not a traditional bock beer though.

heutsie (449) - - OCT 3, 2020
Vleugje zoethout.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2020 08-03-2020; bottle; at home (bought at an unknown location). The looks of the beer are nice. It is nice and dark. Lovely chestnut colour with a ruby red glow. It seems to be pretty clear. On top of the beer there is a nice layer of almond colored foam. Foam retention is low, but a thin drape is left on top of the beer. The aroma of the beer is nice. Caramel and toffee, a touch of toast and some chocolate. Besides this, nice raisin and some tobacco. A touch of smoke is there too, bringing more balance to the beer. It is very aromatic. The hops give some herbal notes, with some dark leaf-like touches. It is nice and dark, robust, but perfect for a rainy evening next to the fire. It has what a Doppelbock needs. The taste of the beer is nice too. Sweet malts with nice sweet warming alcohol. The hops give a nice bitterness. The malts also contribute with some of the bitterness with that sightly roasted touch. The result is a well balanced taste. The palate of the beer is nice. Full body, smooth texture and creamy. The carbonation is average. The finish has nice warming alcohol, smooth sweet malt notes with a touch of chocolate and some roast. All in all, a very pleasant beer. I like it.
