Aroma definitely shows signs of oxidation with a noticeable honey character. Medium, sweet graininess with some bread and cracker notes. Medium strong overripe stone fruit notes, especially peach and plums. Some light citrus character as well as pear and light phenolics. Faint oak and light hop character.
Pours a fairly hazy, golden orange with a small, but fairly thick, white head with good retention. Medium light retention and medium light legs.
Flavor has a medium light honey character from oxidation. Medium light notes of the hops remain imparting some citrus and tropical fruit. Light, moderately sweet, grain notes along with white bread and toast. Medium light grains of paradise and coriander phenolic notes. Moderate bitterness with a hint of alcohol. Faint oak in the finish.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency an medium low alcohol warmth.
Overall, an alright beer but definitely not an amazing beer. I certainly do not feel that age has helped this one at all; honey character is creeping in and the hops are fading. The hop notes are nice though and add something to what would be a fairly standard tripel. I do not get much oak character at all. Malt notes are subdued and a bit muddled.

Citra hops bring some tropical fruit and the belgian yeast brings powerful fruity esters and some nice spice. Glad I didn’t just crack this one fresh as all of the flavors seem really well integrated and the alcohol is undetectable.

The head is a great white hue with a good amount of carbonation and a long lasting lacing on the glass. The smell of the beer is outstanding because it is something that I’ve never experineced before with a great blend of citrusy orange, mild hoppiness and a lingering grapefruit smell, an outstanding blend. The taste blows you away with a mellow sweet orange that transitions into a mild grapefruit then into a hoppiness and mild oakey flavors. The mouthfeel hangs around with the sweet ornage and grapefruit that slides into a bitterness of the hops. Overall, this is one of the best beers I HAVE EVER TASTED because it is so original with the mixture of flavors. If you haven’t tried this beer, go GET IT.
SDalkoholic (2459) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 25, 2013On tap @ Toronado: Poured a glowing yellow hue that was hazy while a thin delicate layer of head rested on top. In the aroma, a scent of girlie perfume along with a squeeze of citrus perhaps grapefruit comes through nicely upon the nose. The taste is pure yeast with a heavy serving of spicy Belgian yeast that showcases a mixture of spices such as clove, ginger root, and a dash of pepper or green herbs. Definitely an Abbey Tripel that stands out from the rest.
