COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Poterie is French for “pottery”, the traditional eight-year anniversary gift. Our eighth anniversary ale, Poterie, follows in the footsteps of our anniversary releases before it, which are loosely based on an English-style old ale, fermented with our house yeast strain and then blended using the solera method. This means that a portion of each anniversary ale is saved in oak barrels and blended in with the next year’s production, providing more complexity and depth of character as the years go by. The result is layered in robust and complex flavors of toffee, caramel, dark fruit, vanilla and oak. Poterie will age gracefully for decades when cellared properly. Editor’s Note: This is the entry for The Bruery’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Anniversary beer.

nathanvc (4147) - Gent, BELGIUM - DEC 13, 2021
UPDATED: DEC 13, 2021 29 October 2021. Third Great Timternational Beer Geek Tasting. Cheers to the Ghent beer crew! Hazy dark brown-blackish, thin, frothy, tan head. Aroma of pure bourbon, green apple (the feared acetaldehyde), beef stock, soy, wood, beef jerky, dark fudge, molasses. Taste has sweet date & fig, deep umami layer of soy, teriyaki & beef stock, very lightly toasty in a fudge- & molasses-like malt body. Peppery hoppy finish with dried fruits, umami again, green apple & eventually boozy bourbon alcohol, which causes the pure alcohol note to dominate a more 'noble' oak element. Medium to full body, oily texture, average carbonation. Definitely complex & layered, generally enjoyable, yet still feels quite young (and thin!) perhaps due to my oversensitivity to acetaldehyde. Also thank you, tderoeck, for unintentionally providing this one instead of the Scotch BA version, which was my 'birthday bottle' this year, and of which I expect more.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2021 Bottle, 2016, bourbon barrel, at Goblet, with Didibau, Rabran, Pero B and Mladi Marjan. Very dark brown body, traces of a tiny off-white head. Huge bourbon-coconut, rich, slightly oxidated maltiness - dried figs and dust and cocoa, rogač. Lean taste, caramel, woody, barrel notes, nutty, dried figs, light vanilla, solid well integrated alcohol coming well with the woody notes, bitter, orange liqueur. Oh wow, is this a wow at times. Soft, complex, supremely balanced. Can't say there is no rough barrel notes here and there, but this is fantastic at sips. Huge props!

ctipping (3902) - Florida, USA - FEB 15, 2021
UPDATED: FEB 15, 2021 On tap at Das Beer Garden as Etain. Deep brown. Smells of bourbon, earthy leather, oak, and light oxidation. Tastes of heavy bourbon and alcohol. Sweet caramel. Oak. Heavy and boozy. I had a small pour, which was enough. It's quite tasty though. I haven't had a version of this beer in years. The concept seems to be developing well, though.
