COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile.
The previous release of Smoking Wood was aged in rye whiskey barrels while this more limited version was aged in bourbon barrels, contributing a different nuance to the already complex ale.

ineedbeer (3410) - California, USA - JUN 28, 2020
UPDATED: JUN 28, 2020 Poured from a 750 ml, 2012 vintage bottle. Aroma is definitely smoke forward but once you get past that there are nice chocolate, roast and toffee notes. Light bourbon and faint oak notes. Medium light alcohol spice. Pours black with a medium large, thick, dark mocha head that recedes to a small dark mocha film that lingers. Light lacing and long legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with quite a bit of chocolate, roast and dark caramel and toffee. Moderate smoke notes. Medium bitterness and medium low alcohol notes. Light bourbon and oak. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent beer that while smoke forward does not overwhelm the senses. Alcohol is strong but not overpowering.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2019 Bottle, vintage 2014. Pours black. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, toffee, some coffee and smoke. Body is heavy and strong, low smoke, liquid caramel, chocolate, low carbonation. Some abrasive tar on the palate, but otherwise super smooth. Sweet palate, intense and rich. Amazing.

PorterPounder (10071) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - SEP 22, 2017
Inky black pour with a creamy khaki-colored head. Aroma is that of bourbon, creosote and soy sauce. Flavor is full bodied and bold with heavy doses of bourbon, some chocolate notes, a bit of molasses and dates and some back end soy sauce notes. Not quite cloying, but n the neighborhood near the bottom of the pour. Thick sticky mouthfeel. Not the hugest bourbon barrel aged fan - but this one drank pretty good. Thanks to Jame at Proof for the bottle share,

Nice wine-style bottle, inky pour, no head. Vaporous aroma, all the inviting vanilla, cocoa, impy stout aroma elements. Viscous. Fairly sour and whiskeyish. Thanks to Jme down at Proof.

Bottle, 2014. Lots of bourbon, oak, nice vanilla and proper porterish notes of chocolate and dried fruits. Full bodied, sweetish, smooth. Finish bit boozy, sweet. Great brew.

Pours dark brown but is pitch black in the glass. Tan colored head. Aroma is powerful, bourbon, booze, chocolate, green coffee beans, smokey, oak, dark fruits. Flavour is dark chocolate, huge smoked note, green pepper skin, green coffee beans, oak, lots of booze and whiskey. Full body, sticky mouthfeel, warm and light dry finish. A winter sipper. Wow!
