UPDATED: DEC 7, 2021 Bottle from Belgium?? Anyway, pretty non existent aroma. Lovely mahogany brown. The flavour is quite sweet with a dry ending. The fizz and feel of a classic Belgian brown. You really cant beat the Belgians sometimes. (31/8/21). ----- Bottl from Belgium or system, who knows. Gentle, somewhat boozy aroma. Quite thin brown apperance. Really tasty though - chocolate and English brown ale notes, but with hops coming through. Easy ending with some booziness. Not mind blownigly profound but a lovely beer for sure that would be dangerous on the long run. 3.7 to 3.6.

Nurmis (1979) - Oulu, FINLAND - AUG 18, 2021
UPDATED: AUG 18, 2021 0,33l bottle from local alko. Pours brown with beige foam. Yeast, kind of caramel notes, hint of dark fruits. Dryish, sweet and bitter all at the same time. Quite easy to drink and not overtly complex, liked it still.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2021 33cl bottle from store in Bruxelles, drinking it on 25/07/2021 BB 30/03/2023 Pours full brown - amber with thin beige foam on top and great lacing. Aroma is quite fruited and rich of esters for a belgian dark ale. Also quite yeasty and notes of dried fruits and lightly nutty. Taste is warm and smooth, a bit woody with notes of roasted malt, yeast, dried fruits, toffee, licorice and plums, some caramel. Drinkable, but nice warmth from the high 8% abv. Medium to full body but kind of creamy yet really easy to sip, addicting taste. Medium carbonation, not too sweet or bitter taste. Really good, had some high expectations after the blond and this one fulfilled them, incredible trappist beers.

ClarkVV (9063) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - JUN 17, 2021
UPDATED: JUN 17, 2021 2018 bottle drunk 6/15/21. Clear, ruddy, mahogany with a small, off-white head showing low retention. Lovely minearl-like yeast notes are elegant showing none of the unwanted clove, intense pepper and with well-developed malts adding a mix of honey, vanilla and caramel. Moderate dark fruitiness on the end adds complexity and no alcohol or flaw is noted. Malty in the mouth. Not sure if these are finely-filtered then bottled with yeast like many of the bigger Belgian trappist/abbey ales, but it doesn't seem like it as there's more malt depth/softer texture here. Prune-like acidity balances the honey-and-chocolate sweetness from the malts while an interesting array of esters and phenols develop (sans clove/banana/bubble gum). Fairly tight carbonation. Light alcohol warmth and a bit of bready-like oxidation, to be expected, on the finish.

johndoughty (7231) - cheslyn hay, West Midlands, ENGLAND - MAY 30, 2021
UPDATED: MAY 30, 2021 As expected a pleasant brown appearance and poured with no head.Excellent nutty flavour with a surprising and frightening lack of alcohol presence. A classy and understated beer. Also a new brewery for me.
