COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Reckoning is unfiltered and weighs in at 5.8% abv and 53 IBU’s. It features Pilsner, Caramel, Chocolate and Roasted malts along with Chinook and Vanguard hops. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, but the rich, smooth mouth feel is what really stands out.”

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2021 I had it on tap. It pours a very dark brown with some head. The aroma is chocolate and coffee. The taste is coffee, some earthy hops, and chocolate. This is pretty good. There's a nice bitterness and a subtle sweetness. It's easy to drink. It's a good session beer on a cooler day.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2018 12 oz. can. Pours a deep ruby red color with a tan cap of foam. Aroma is toasted with a bit of chocolate. Medium-full body. Flavor has a nice roasted malt and chocolate taste. Finish slightly dry and some of the bittering hops come out. Well done!

asheft (3161) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 12, 2017
UPDATED: OCT 12, 2017 [On tap at brewery] Fairly weak aroma with a little roasted barley vanilla and some nuttiness. Not quite clear ruby-dark brown under a lasting, off-white collar. Flavour is dry and slightly roasty with smokey notes (not phenolic). Moderate bitterness. Dark bread crust and dark toast accents. Not quite crisp, medium light body, moderate carbonation.

BB backlog, Bottle, pours black with light carbonation and a smaller head that didn’t stick. Notes of coffee, chocolate, smokey malt, and light pine from the chinook hops. Really average porter.

jsporrer (1817) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 14, 2015
Pours a semi-transparent cola brown color with a medium white head. Not much of an aroma. taste is mostly light coffee. Very smooth with a little hop bite that isn’t too harsh nor bitter. Flavor lingers a bit. A little thin for a porter but it was flavorful enough to be enjoyable without being overpowering. Not bad but too much on the light side.

MadRobin (3973) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - AUG 22, 2014
Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Opaque, deep dark brown with a 2-finger khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of cola, chocolate, nuts, raisins, pine and toffee. Taste of chocolate, pine, nuts, roasted coffee, roasted malt, lemon/orange citrus and toffee. Medium/light body and medium/high carbonation. Rather hoppy for a porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Expectation: the brewer baffles me for unknown reasons and I tend to assume I’ve already had a ton of there stuff and in reality, I’ve only had three others. The high rating lead me to think this will be a good experience especially since I like the style.
Hardware: 12oz bottle (bottled on 8/21/13) into Le Guinness 2010
Nose: can’t really penetrate the huge head that required I use two glasses. I recall strong coffee notes but now I just get that over carbonated smell.
Sip: definitely strong roast and coffee notes.Slight lactose maybe or perhaps chocolate.
Taste: all kinds of bitterness
Misc: the second I heard a pop when I took the top off, I thought there would be a mess, but no mess except the beer itself. I think there is something wrong in here - it’s way too foamy for a porter and the smell is odd.
Conclusion: I will need to try this again from a different source.
PS: as it warmed it got better, but I still suspect a bad bottle or bad storing conditions from the store. I find it least likely that this is a bad beer.
