notalush (6725) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 9, 2022UPDATED: JAN 9, 2022 Can - pours nearly black - decent off-white head/lacing - nose smells like milk sugar and chocolate - medium-body - very sweet and sugary, without a lot of the body and depth other imperial stouts of similar sweetness sometimes bring, which makes it taste all the more sweet, as they are fewer other things to focus on - a little roast, chocolate, a tiny bit of smoke, some acidity in the finish that fails to balance - not great, but also not awful.
Ernest (9030) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 6, 2022UPDATED: JAN 6, 2022 Can. Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is black (almost opaque, flashlight tested). Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (chocolate syrup, roasted grain), with light notes of vanilla and alcohol. Flavor is heavily to harshly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Full body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic.
Curiously shy (and very simple) aroma for an impy stout, virtually nothing there at all. Wayyyy too syrupy sweet without nearly enough to balance (have they not tried Yeti, perhaps the most perfectly balanced impy there is?). A really strange, dull, goopy rendition of the style. Only could manage a few sips before dumping it.
