UPDATED: AUG 18, 2019 This is a backlog rating from 2012 on draft to a taster at Dutch's, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are toasted pale malts, some resiny and earthy hops, minimal oak character, ok.

Bottle from beer club. Pours copper with off-white head. Aroma citrus and hops, follows through to taste with the pine and a very bitter lingering finish. Good beer but that 87 IBU this one exceeds my hop tolerance. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber. A nice copper hue and a two finger layer of foam atop. A caramel aroma with fruit under that. The flavor is also full of caramel. A little bit of hops that bring citrus and tropical fruit. Tasty enough but seem to be in kind of short supply. This is a good beer but more hops would have been appreciated.

Tasting at Matt’s
Cloudy light amber color, ssmall head. Nice aroma of toffee, fudge, biscuity malt. Some malt flavor, light residual sweetness, strong bitterness, but it tastes like infinitely old.
Since there is no BBD on the bottle, the brewery is to blame. Not very pleasant.

Pours a clear, golden-copper, with middling head. Aroma is grassy and floral, with some caramel and other toffee notes. Flavor is pretty sweet, with a lot of hop bite underneath. Notes of licorice and chocolate in this, along with citrus and tropical fruit from the hops. Rather a bitter finish. Sweeter than I really want from a double IPA.

Draught @ Albion. Cloudy dark orange with small frothy beige head that leaves a ring quickly, faint orange peel aroma, medium carbonation, sweetish orange peel taste, medium bitter finish with sticky sweet orange aftertaste. A bit too sweet for my taste.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in fall 2015. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, melon, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, and creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice East coast DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Draft sampler at Lizardville. Pours a deep golden orange with haze and a big head. Nice lacing. The aroma is tropical fruits like mango and oranges, some alcohol, cereal, and slight resin. Taste is big tropical fruits orange and mango, some slight pine, some mild oak, and a slight bitter finish. Medium to light mouth, well carbed. Tasty.
