From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting at Brian’s on March 30. 750 mL bottle. This one is something else. The pour is more of a muddier dark ruby brown with a thin ring of khaki colored head and a couple spots of lace as it vanishes completely. The aroma is different. There is a light smoke, and a smooth caramel I suppose with this. It’s really lacking a lot of the traditional Scotch Ale kind of notes. Light graininess and a hint of alcohol round it out. The flavor is much of the same. Grainy with a light smokiness up front and a hint of malty sweetness and alcohol on the back end. There isn’t a whole lot of toffee or sweetness to be found. The mouth feel is medium bodied with a softer carbonation and a lingeringly alcohol dominated, grainy finish. This is interesting. It’s not overly smoky like I thought it would be, but it’s not really wowing anything either. Eh. 6 4 6 4 14

I found the smell somewhat repulsive.... sickingly sweet malt. However, the taste was much better.. tastes like you’d imagine a beer in a dessert form would taste, but as smooth as can be. However, don’t think I could do more than a glass of this stuff.

Sample @ Charleston Brewvival 2015. Deep brown pour with a small head. Rich bourbon accented nose. Plenty of vanilla and toffee. Boozy accents. Toasted grain. Similar flavor. Caramel and glazed donut. Mellow earthy spiciness. A bit of wood. Full body, robust.

750ml, caged and corked bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a tan sized head. Earth, bourbon, wood, vanilla, caramel, with some roast and dark fruits.

Quickly fleeting, off-white head tops a clear amber-mahogany.
Spicy pepper notes are backed by light caramel and toffee, lots of fruitiness showing cherries, sour peaches and light vanilla at the end. Not sure it’s supposed to smell sour-ish....
Phenolic, sour-ish, and beany with a huge pepper and light alcohol character. Fizzy, loose carbonation and light caramel-plum flavors on the end. What the hell is all of this phenolic character?? Yikes. No bueno.

750ml shared by Chalumeaux. Thanks, TJ! Pours medium brown with a light beige head. Aroma is caramel, molasses. Flavor is caramel, molasses. Quite sweet. Bourbon in the finish doesn’t balance the cloying base.

750 ml bottle, thanks to Chalumeaux. Dark brown color, thin white head. Aroma is smoked peat, sour mash, Diacetyl daughter and sour dirty socks

You do not need a cicerone verification to know this has gone very very bad. Red wine, dirty socks and watered down ash trays. Gosh damn, awful. This goes down the drain. If you have it open and get rid of it. This has gone foul.

750ML. golden red, no head. smells nice, belgian yeast, candi sugar, raisins, fig. sweet, tastes like cigars, smoke, salt, peet. not great.

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2016 Poured from bottle dark murky chestnut with a tan head. Aromas of wood dark fruit peat smoke and some vanilla. Taste is smoke vanilla caramel and dark fruit.

Appearance: Murky chestnut body with a creamy tan head.
Aroma: Big sweet caramel, peat smoke, mild vanilla. Overall mild strength.
Taste: Peat smoke blended with caramel. Hints of vanilla and fig up front.
Palate: Medium bodied, moderately carbonated.
Overall: Good beer but the peat smoke distracts from the overall flavor.
