Wadworth have been brewing 6X in their Devizes brewery for over 80 years. This delightful copper-coloured beer has a malty, fruity nose with a restrained hop character. The same characteristics emerge on the palate but with more intensity, leading to a lingering malty finish. The beer is full bodied and distinctive but with a high drinkability, ensuring its position as one of the South of England’s most requested beers.
6X is brewed from 93% pale malt, 4% crystal malt and 3% cane sugar. The bitterness units of 22-24 are obtained from Fuggles hops (85% of total) in the copper and Goldings hops (15%) on the hop back plates. Colour rating is 28.

dragnet101 (2331) - Birmingham, West Midlands, ENGLAND - OCT 29, 2021
UPDATED: OCT 29, 2021 Bottle from Waitrose, Solihull. Pours a clear amber with small off-white head, some lacing. Aroma of sweet toasty malts, caramel, light resinous hop, metal. Taste has a nice bittersweet balance with caramel, bread, nuts, spice. Light bodied along with the pasteurisation may mean it lacks a bit of character and depth once you get past the initial flavour. Still its quite a tasty bitter.

UPDATED: JUN 24, 2021 Bottle from Waitrose. Pours a clear dark copper colour with a large thick creamy off-white head. Aromas of bread and caramel. Taste is toasty bread, caramel, spice and a hint of dry dark fruit. Slightly sweet finish. Medium to full body and smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. Pretty good.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2021 Poured from a can. Pours standard amber ale with large head. Aroma standard bitter, bread and hops. Taste- malt, standard bitter hops and more malt and that damp depressing note all Wadworth beers have. Not good at all, very dour and depressing to drink. A BSB- Bog Standard Bitter. These type of bitters feel like a chore to drink, a throwback to the 1970s. Brewers that rely on their own pub chains like Wadworth’s are in big trouble financially and may not survive much longer, and in terms of beer they would be no great loss. In fact Wadworth’s are not popular even in Wiltshire, my friends there prefer Doom Bar or Speckled Hen on tap to this.

Calisky (4636) - ALSACE, FRANCE - JUN 25, 2020
UPDATED: JUN 25, 2020 Belle couleur ambrée, bonne mousse qui réduit. Nez sur le caramel brun, leger herbeux. Gout malté, herbeux, avec un coté bien acidulé, puis caramel brun, toasté. Corps assez floteux. Fin sur le malté humide.

UPDATED: DEC 25, 2019 500ml bottle from Tesco, Watford and drunk on 26/10/2005. I used to really like this on cask, back in the day. The bottle version was better than many other pasteurised versions, but not as nice as the cask.

LittleShit (235) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 16, 2019
UPDATED: MAR 16, 2019 500ml can. A darker amber with a film white head. A brown bread, rolo, toffee metallic aroma. Really lacks depth. This or doom bar, it’s the latter everyday of the week. Meh.

Sigmund (11541) - Tau, NORWAY - DEC 13, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 13, 2018 500 ml bottle, from British Corner Shop. ABV is 4.3%. Deep copper to reddish amber colour, moderate white head. Aroma of malts, brown bread, a little fruit, moderate earthy hops. The flavour has a slight acidic fruitiness on a firm background of dry malts and brown bread, moderate earthy hops in the finish. Pleasant to drink. .
