COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark Helmet is a German-style black lager (or Schwarzbier) brewed with 10% malted rye. Chocolate and Carafa malts give this beer its dark color and ludicrously smooth, roasty flavor. May the Schwarz be with you!

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2020 Can accidentally aged two years and found during a garage clean out! Oops. Pours a dark brown with a big, bubbly brown head that lasts. The aroma and flavor are dark malt, smoke, coffee and chocolate. I know it says drink within 90 days of brewing but even 2.5 years later this is very nice! Gotta find a fresh one now.

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2019 The Aromas are dark malt and roast. Flavors are like Nose with a nice balance between sweet, tart, and bitter. Good body with slightly strong carbonation and decent finish. Nothing unusual but not too bad either.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2019 Quite solid, totally to style, and I don't recall alot of non Germans I like in this great style. A bit of smoke, dry, roasty, clean, a bit burnt, plenty of body. Will look for it again.

16 ounce can from a trade with bacchus66. Thanks! The beer is a dark brown with a lasting head of beige foam. Toasty and earthy aroma. Some vanilla sweetness comes across in the taste. Notes of dark chocolate and cream in the taste. Sweet overall. Medium body and medium carbonation.

nearbeer (7699) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 1, 2018
Pint canned 02/19/2018. Pours schwarz mit einem ring aus blasen. Nose is chocolate, bread, caramel and a touch of espresso. Complex flavors of bread, chocolate, rye, caramel, toasted nut, soy, char and a hint at blackberry. Medium bodied with annoyingly explosive fizz but a nice balance.

16 ounce can. Dark brown color with a slight reddish hue. Rocky tan head is voluminous initially, then it disappates quickly. Roasted malt nose has hints of chocolate and brown sugar. Flavor is roasted malt and chocolate. A bit thin in body. Decent flavor with a touch of metallic notes in finish.
