TorbenJensen (1877) - Valby, DENMARK - OCT 11, 2015It has a moderately creamy foam, and lots of great yeast residues floating around in the glass. It may deter some beer drinkers, but not me. I chew me like through the sediment if it is necessary for the overall impression. Wheat malts fresh aroma of freshly harvested grain is evident in the flavor and mixes lively with a little hard roasted malt. Slightly tangy berry fruits are to find only in taste but replaced over time by the hard roasted malt, newly harvested grains, dark caramel and banana and chocolate notes. It is very rich and tasteful.
Darkmagus82 (2303) - - JUN 18, 2014Transfer from BA review on 5-29-12-
Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a hazy brown color with a nice thick tan head. The head fades very slowly over time to give a small level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of brown bread. These bready aromas are mixed with some dark fruit aromas of cherry and prune. Mingling with all these aromas is a very light alcohol aroma. Very nice blend overall.
Taste – The flavors start out with a more malty and bready flavor. The flavors quickly change in nature, in which they sweeten at the expense of the malty due to flavors of sweeter fruit of cherry and prune entering the taste. These fruit tastes lose their sweetness however and begin lightly sour at the end the taste. As the fruit flavors begin to lightly sour, there is also the entrance of some spicy and yeasty flavors as well which when arriving with a lightly boozy flavor leave an intriguing warming taste on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is just above average with the carbonation level just below normal. Overall both suit the beer well with its sweeter then more sour flavors.
Overall – A nice, slightly tart (but not too sour) weizenbock with a nice warming feel the is very pleasant to sit back and sip. I find this one a quite nice brew.
Ed5388 (3488) - Forked River, New Jersey, USA - AUG 13, 201312oz bottle. Pours a clear light amber brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, banana, and clove. Tastes of banana sweetness, spiciness (pepper and clove), toasted malt, and yeast.
warhawk91 (302) - Newington, Connecticut, USA - JUN 29, 201312 oz. bottle from Manchester Discount Beverage in Manchester, CT. Pours a cloudy rust color, not much lacing. Smell is spicy citrus, dark fruits. Definite plum and coriander, Belgian yeast. Taste is the best part, fruity, a bit roasty, sweet fruit and caramel, mild hop presence. Mouth feel is great, a bit viscous yet effervescent and alive. A great American version of this style. Definitely a smooth drinkability and plenty of kick to go with it. Advertised as a double dunkel but has single smoothness. This brewery, in general puts out really good stuff, will plan on reviewing more of their beers as soon as I can.
obguthr (10432) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - MAR 26, 2013Heavy clove nose, with cocoa and soil underneath. Murky brown, wispy sediments, firm medium tan head. Creamy mouthfeel. Cocoa, clove, banana flavor. A tad boozy, but the brewer does label this as a double dunkelweizen. While it certainly isn’t quaffable, it’s hardly a chore. Pretty effin neat and a meal unto itself.
madmitch76 (34026) - , Essex, ENGLAND - FEB 2, 201317th November 2011
Opaque cloudy red - brown beer. Tidy pale tan head. Palate is smooth with a trailing carbonated bite. Sweetish caramel malt, well balanced banana esters. Lactose and a little tangy fruits before the semi dry finish. Drinkable.
glennmastrange (3404) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - DEC 13, 2012Bottle. Moderate toasted cereal for the malt, light to moderate cooked orange for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast, with hints of brown sugar and cream sherry. Head is tiny, off-white with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is murky, dark reddish brown. Flavor starts lightly to modeately sweet and acidic, then finishes lightl sweet and acidic. Palate is medium to full, creamy with a lively carbonation and a lightly astringent finish. Nice representation of a Dunkleweizen, sweet, full and rich.
MarkSachon (1194) - Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 24, 201212 oz bottle from Baruni’s in Baden, PA. Nearly perfect in every regard. Still wish my sister lived in Easton where I could get these good ales even fresher.
POLK (2214) - Hørning, DENMARK - SEP 30, 2012200711: Brown color with a fine beige foam. Fruity aroma. Sweet caramel flavor and notes from the wheat.
humlelala (1377) - DENMARK - SEP 21, 2012(35 cl bottle from Toft Vin) Pours cloudy brown with quickly dissipating head that leves lace. Aroma is malty with banana notes and a slightly acidic hint. Flavour follows the nose with some more pronounced acidity and a whiff of cardboard in addition to the caramel maltiness. Oily texture, soft carbonation, full body and a dry finish. Definitely not my kind of style.
