Splitenz (443) - Oslo, NORWAY - APR 3, 2018When I've gone to South Africa in the past I've always gone for Windhoek beers. Apart from Castle Milk Stout, I find the ranger of industrial South African lagers to be very very poor. Not least because of corn (maize) and other additions. WIndhoek beers are simply put German beer made in the old German Colony of Süd West, now Namibia, and they are made according to the purity laws in Germany. That can mean boring, but here it means good beer to drink without getting a sickening hangover.
The Special is a bit rounder and tad more bitter than the regular I think. It goes down really smooth. I did find it easier to get the difference between this one and the regular than this one and the draught. Slightly stronger ABV but at 0.5 it doesn't make much of a difference. It's the actual aftertaste of QUALITY that matters here.
Vighals (8063) - Sørumsand, NORWAY - FEB 9, 2018UPDATED: FEB 9, 2018 Legger meg på snittet på denne da denne tydelig er ødelagt. Fin gylden brun farve, men eller smaker og luktet det eddik.
DandyWolfFloyd (1839) - Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 16, 2014Aroma - the aroma is combination of cardboard, corn, and honey
Appearance - the body color is yellow; the liquid is clear, but with a few beads of nucleation and bits of stuff floating with in. (Yikes!); the head was about 1/4" and white. and quickly dissolved into a thin layer of foam.
Taste - the taste is of caramel malt, some wet cardboard as well, kind of nutty, kind of corny
Palate - body is light; the texture thin; the carbonation flat; the finish very abrupt
queenholly (3623) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - SEP 22, 2013Bottle. Barley malt and sweet plum aroma. Hazy honey gold with a small white head. Sweet barley malt flavor. Light body, soft carbonation.
Patrickctenchi (7259) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - SEP 2, 2013Clear gold, short white head.
Spoiled grain, age, and oxidation aroma.
Taste is a fairly decent "beer-ness"....overwhelmed by old grain/breadiness.....
Might have been ok once upon a time....
unknown age.
shrubber85 (13675) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - SEP 1, 2013Bottle. Cardboard and malt aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Mildly sweet barley malt flavor. This is probably a very decent beer when fresh.
cheap (7939) - Land of Taxes, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 31, 2013So, I’m honored 2B the 47th ratebeerian to rate this BS? How can I tik this less than a 3 when on the label it says "natural power" heheh. Funny eh? Right on the neck of the bottle like a blue ribbon from pabst. This is my tik for nambia, lets see, where is that on the map, HAH? Color of slightly hazy baltic lager. Processed third world country water background. Smell is clean, then infected. Difficult, taste is a little old thar. Aroma is a little like volatile cheap ice lager. Yes, like so many other third world country beers that I have had, lets make sure this is past yer eyes. Is there enough clean water to make sure I don’t get bullshit digestive trouble? On par with a lager I got from sri lanka. Some co2, not much.
ContemplateBeer (2089) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - APR 14, 2012Aroma of white grape, slightly sweet corn and apple. Appearance is gold with scant light head. Flavor of toast, apple and white grape. Palate is creamy and bubbly. Not a bad lager; good to see that German colonization was worth something.
hannelie (1) - Keetmanshoop, NAMIBIA - APR 1, 2012 does not count On a hot Namibian summer day... Nothing better then an ice-cold Windhoek Special. Yet, hard to get.
r464 (2785) - Earth, California, USA - FEB 26, 2012Certainly malty in the aroma, leading to a malty flavor that is somewhat sweet (caramel) and mixed with a bit of fruity sourness.
