COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’re really bored with this super strength, über hop thing... our response is a reddish little, anti-anti-establishment* session ale... best served through a handpump.

Punkadiddle!

Malt: Baird’s Maris Otter, Crystal 90, Crystal 250, Pale Chocolate
Hops: East Kent Goldings
Yeast: London ESB yeast

Suggested beer-pants match: Houndstooth

*please note: "anti-anti-establishment" is not pro-establishment.

From handpull at Volstead in Christchurch. Reddish mahogany with a good lengthy creath coloured head that left lace right down the glass. A perfect looking pint of pub ale. A nose of spiced pumpkin - cinnamon, nutmeg, it left me wondering why this works so well in a session pint. Flavours are equivalent with a good pinch of bitterness leading to a lengthy finish. Sessionable quaffing ale. Would be a perfect Autumn pint.

AROMA: yeasty, can’t smell the chocolate hops, might be too light APPEARANCE: clear, copper, nice lacing but small head TASTE: Nothing really distinct but it is not a light beer, sort of bitter, a nice dry beer. PALATE: dry, clean finish, low carbonation, OVERALL: You can’t get bored with super strength, über hop thing. You can be overwhelmed. A nice rest is a good way to appreciate the next thing. But it is New Zealand and they often have trouble expressing themselves in a clear and positive way.

Nice red colour with thin white head. Herby malt aroma. Earthy malt flavours. First sampled this at beervana and has mellowed out well. A great flavour for low alcohol beer. Should be sold in all the stadiums during the RWC :)

From the FYO at Regional, still hanging out to try it from the handpump. Might have to take some home and put it through one at the Mason’s. Aroma features a big nutty cereal malt character with some nice biscuity and caramel. Esters seem restrained with some nice english hop character. In the mouth there is some really nice tangy hop flavour, some lightly biscuity malt notes and a rounded dry finish.

Sometimes you need a big event to appreciate the smaller things in life, so in the day I lived thru a 7.1 Earthquake i decided to unwind with a Punkadiddle on the grounds that fermented things are good to drink without having to be boiled. What I’d initially thought at beervana was a little young for release is infact a jolly nice pint. Smells nice. Tastes a little chocolatey, a little caramelly, very pretty red amber colour and a nice smooth and rich mouthfeel. Has a harmoniousness that a lot of bigger and hoppier beers lack.Top drinking and the sort of beer you could drink 100’s of pints of and find a new thing to love about it every time. Well brewed Messers Yeasties
