COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As of 2018, only brewed in New Zealand and exported to other markets.
They said it couldn’t be done, that it would be undrinkable, that we couldn’t use more than 5% heavy peated malt in a beer. So we carefully considered their advice and decided to try 100% instead. Rex Attitude is inspired by French techno and the whisky of Scotland’s west coast. Like the ’Auld Alliance’ it combines a little Scottish rogue with a dose of French je ne sais quoi. It is, as far as we know, the world’s first beer made from 100% heavy peated distilling malt.

Don’t fucking sniff it and swirl... this is Scottish malt. Drink it.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2021 Bottle sample at a tasting. Clear golden-yellow with white head. The aroma is extremely peaty, fire, whiskey, ash, cigarette. The flavor is bitter, very peaty, fire, alcohol, whiskey, some fruits, cigarette. Medium to full-bodied.

UPDATED: JUN 27, 2021 Bottle sample at a tasting at Yoav's place. Clear golden. Bonfire, peaty smokiness, ashtray, malt, a bit of fruitiness, sweetish and slightly sourish.

Cokemonkey11 (1755) - - OCT 18, 2020
UPDATED: OCT 18, 2020 Bottle at home. Pale amber with soap bubbles, looks like unclean glass. Scent is intensive peat smoke (!) Taste is bacon, pale malt, caramel, harsh bitter buckwheat, corn starch. Medium cedar wood. Finish is starchy. Very good beer, but the peat is a gimmick on an otherwise average golden ale.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2019 Bottle. Vintage 2018; Bought Aug 2019; BB unstated; Drank Oct 2019 - Clear yellow gold. Small white head. Very smoked aroma. Heavily smoked peated malts, smoked ham, bonfire, ashy, intense smoked peat, some caramel. Citrus lemon. Medicinal. Quite dry. Bittersweet heavily smoked peated malts medicinal and citrus fruity. Lingering dry smoked finish. Total smoked malts overload but I liked it. (2019-10)

Grumbo (14439) - Ipswich, Suffolk, ENGLAND - JUN 10, 2019
UPDATED: JUN 10, 2019 10/6/2019. Bottle, sample, courtesy of danlo, cheers Ed! Pours almost clear slightly pale gold with a small foamy off-white head. Initial aroma shocks! Takes a while to even get near the glass (missed the 'don't f'ing sniff it' warning hidden in the information). Peat, creosote, wood-burner, soot, heavy smoked cheese, herbal ointment, and some late developing citrus orange. Light sweetness, medium to heavy bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, average carbonation. So much going on, and after a while started to appreciate it a lot more. Left a finish of yesterday's cigar (which in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing as that is normally one sign it was a good night!). And the more of this beer I tried the more I found it enjoyable. Though not too sure why.

danlo (8048) - Darlington, Durham, ENGLAND - MAY 29, 2019
UPDATED: MAY 29, 2019 330ml bottle from Hop Burns & Black. Slightly hazy golden colour, white foam head leaving some lacing and aroma of smoked, peaty, tar. Taste is smokey, peaty, phenolic, tar, burnt plastic with some pale malt. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry smokey peaty finish. OK, dominated by the smoked peat notes.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2019 Hazy pale body with a large white head. Whilst I don’t drink Smokey beer too often this was a nice change in the Yeastis Boys line up. Campfire

imdownthepub (22082) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 15, 2019
UPDATED: JAN 15, 2019 Bottled, 330ml from The Bottle Shed, Acocks Green, Birmingham. Hazy gold with white head. There is a heavy smoked character to this, this is a 60 nails a day beer, wheezy. Damp bonfire with smoked sausage, bacon notes. Strange drinking, couldn't manage much more. It's okay.
