Beer type like in Schlenkerla. Place is small with long tables. They have also a classic pilsner and that could be important for someone. Good food!

Visited in the evening, we were lucky enough to find a place in biergarten. Efficient services. Selection is limited to 4 beers, but the quality is very good to excellent. Loved their Ungespundet. Well worth checking out.

Visited on a Monday night and we were glad we had reserved ahead. Due in part to the no doubt reserved number of places these days, tables fill up quick. Drank 3 beers over dinner, including a very nice Märzen. The food here has a leg up on the offerings over at Schlenkerla, at least in terms of sophistication. Seems to sell out quick though since many of the items were no longer available when we ate—which was only at 6. Nice atmosphere and service was prompt and efficient. A must.

Visited in August 2019 on a 5-day Bamberg and surroundings trip with Caesar. Enjoyed our time here, worth a visit for sure (but aren't all Bamberg places??), fine beers except the weizen which I really didn't like. And the staff wasn't really happy the day we visited it seemed. The 'woman' was quite grumpy.

Many geeks and locals think, that Spezial is The PLACE for rauchbier, and schlenkerla - fake and dope. I wouldnt agree - one is feels like cozy local corner place,and schlenkerla - is more like temple. Nevertheless, spezial is still awesome place to visit, offering two varietes - marzen and U kellerbier - from barrels, and rauch lager from KEG. It also acts like a hotel, there is a biergarten outside. Must to visit.

Visited beginnign of July. Sat down in the patio/beergarden in the back. Excellent food and a good beer to go along with it. A must visit when in Bamberg.
