Nice place. Very friendly staff. Really nice tap list when I was there. Lots of local seasonals. If I remember correctly the food is only grilled sandwiches. Simple, but very tasty. Looking forward to going back again.

Great selection of bottles, and they’re happy to can-growler anything they have on tap. I can’t speak to the bar side of things, as I only popped in to get some bottles. That being said, the tap list looked pretty solid.

They just recently changed ownership. The new owner is very knowledgeable. The place is very similar to what it was before. Tap selection seems a little better. Bottle selection is growing. We try and stop by once a week.

I’ve been buying beer at TPTWB since I moved to the area in 2006. Back then it was primarily a smoke shop, which included paraphernalia (which made it tough for me to go there as an AD Soldier). But beer has gradually been getting more emphasis and a mountain-sea change occurred in early 2012 with the addition of handles and an outdoor seating area. Not many views to be had on S56th St, but it’s nice to be able to sit outside on a nice day. And the renewed emphasis on beer is very welcome (Thanks Randall!). While ’ambiance’ can be hard to come by in a bottle shop, TPTWB have done a great job. Selection is very good and they will make an effort to get things for you so bring your wish list. Knowledge is very good to excellent, depending on whom you’re dealing with. Prices are comparable to other area shops such as 99 Bottles and Bottleworks and on-tap/growler prices are very good.

two walls of beers in coolers. one wall is domestic craft stuff with a lot of local washington/oregon. a lot of california breweries like lagunitas. north coast. the other wall is imported beers from around the globe. an ever-growing selection it seems every time I go there. service has been good. friendly people. good prices, probably slightly less expensive than 99 bottles and bottleworks.

First from the outside you think you’re headed in to a smoke shop and that’s what this place was for the past 30 years. Only in the past 6 months or so they have been changed the whole model of the business and are giving up a large amount of space with the tobacco products and are going towards beer. The sign says 750+ beers in stock. From what I see they do have a vast amount of brews in the coolers. They had the big boys to the very rare Belgians. I even found some brews from Vietnam. I was impressed with there selection and it was rivaling any beer shop in the area. If you are still a smoker this is also a place for you to pick up your smoking needs. I can see this place change completely in a few years to a total beer shop. I know for me I will be back when searching for the must look for brews when my local shop is out. As for the name it is currently Tacoma Pipe & Tobacco and World or Beers. This will change soon to just Tacoma World of Beers according to the owner.

Beautiful smoke shop that has transformed into a bottle shop too. Talk about one stop shopping. In only 6 months they have managed to provide me with a fantastic selection of beer making it impossible not to stop by on a weekly basis. Service is great and prices are LOW!!!!

This is a great place to pick up some bottles. The selection would suffer when compared to Bottleworks or 99 Bottles but considering it is a tobacco store with some coolers I am quite impressed. The staff is always helpfull and seem eager to get you the beers that they may not have. As others have mentioned, the prices are very reasonable. Perhaps 5 -10% less than the big boys. Update: In my opinion, no longer a destination for low prices. Still a great selection if you’re in the area though.
