Kauwackers

A popular country estaminet in the heart of rural Flanders, and without doubt one of my personal favourites. Truly authentic in feel with hops along the old wooden ceiling and all manner of antique nic nacs and posters lining the walls. 6 mid-sized bottle fridges line up behind the bar with around 150 Belgian bottles covering all styles, and although there was 4 draft options (including Cuvee Van De Kaizer Blue!), most here seemed to opt for bottles. Food is excellent - typical Flanders cuisine with large portions. Only open Fri-Sun, like most Estaminets, but always packed when it is and usually people spending hours if not all afternoon and evening here. On a recent visit it seems they have extended with a large room out the back which can be booked for private events.

Wonderful place close to the French border and, as such, the customers appear to be mainly French (on our Saturday visit every car but us (some 15 cars) were French. Food excellent. Beer list now back to its old standard topping 150 beers. Can be difficult to find but well worth the effort.

If you find it you have a good view from the terras to worse the France border. Authentiek old bar, good place to spend your Sunday afternoon.

Excellent country restaurant where it ok to come for just a drink. Great atmosphere, good service, good food and a large beer list with something for everyone. Much improved since it escaped the clutches of the Bie Brewery and their infected beer. Very remote so you may need to ask for directions. One of the best pubs in W.Flanders and highly recommended.
