44 A regular bar with some craft selection. Staff are not interested in beer. Good food, but I wouldn't recommend this place if you're visiting Sydney looking for good beer. |

76 Very old school, wrap around wood bar. Seems like a great place to watch sports. Reminded me of an old English pub. Sleepy atmosphere when we were there. Kitchen was closed, no food, and there was nearly a fight out front. |
60 Conveniently close to Central Station. Good selection from a variety of top Australian craft brewers. Kind of grimy with fruit flies. Service is pretty bad, the tenders think themselves too cool to deal with customers, spend a lot of time chatting with their friends. One time I was there and they closed the bar two hours early because they didn’t feel like working any more (the place was half full). Good beers in a bad bar. |
80 Narrow, ’traditional’ style bar in the heart of Surry Hills. Huge selection for Sydney with a lot of decent offerings in rotation. 3 taster paddles for $10 available. Prices otherwise what you’d expect for the city. Never had a problem wth quality of beer and service is typically good. Outside seating and standing room of inside gets too crowded, which it can do of an evening. |
74 Big pub, dark wood, long bar taking up most of the room. Very crowded and noisy at my visit a friday 17:30. Maybe due to the Adele concert later on somewhere in town or just business as usual ? 30 taps, some macro stuff but most with Aussie micros and mainly lighter styles, pilsners and IPAs. Flights of 3 for 10 dollars is a good deal for a dane, pints at 10-12 isnt to bad either. Fast and friendly service. Would like to return another time with less crowd. Free and well working wifi. |
78 Top tier place with over 30 taps. You can do paddles of 3 for $10. Fairly crowded when we went there, so seating was limited. Service is decent and quick. Inside feels like a slightly spruced up English pub. Very much recommended stop when in town. |
78 Visited on 14th April 2016. Walked from the Royal Albert. This looks a little more battle weary but is a nice old place. 3 hand pulls and 33 other taps although not all with great beer on this is a decent spot to stop and try some different beers. Mostly Aussie craft on tap and the beer we tried was in decent condition and was interesting and quite a few beers we hadn’t seen elsewhere. Service was good and staff friendly and chatty. Prices not bad. Would stop by again. |
62 BIg tap list. Sometimes some very good, sometimes really dreadful.
Pub is a bit dirty but has decent character. The food is a bit lacking and a bit bland.
Beer condition is lacking. Do they clean their lines? Ever?? Pretty decent bar staff.
A bit expensive to play Russian roulette with the taps. |
70 Any place committed to keeping real ales is a winner in my books. They have a happy hour to take the sting from your tab, but only if you are willing to drink specific standby beers. If you care to venture into more interesting beer territory or go for a hand pump, it’ll cost you. But it will cost you dearly anywhere in this godforsaken money pit of a city. I love you Sydney, but you gouge me. Anyway, this pub has a character that is lacking from a lot of other bars, I genuinely like it and will return on a payday. |
