58 Greene King pub in the centre of town. It’s traditional and well-worn without being twee, and seems to be a favourite with the older generation although there are a smattering of young ’uns as well. The beer selection isn’t very exciting: 8 cask ales (6 Greene King and 2 St Austell), but there were two GK beers I’d not seen before. Keg is limited to lagers and a couple GK (East Coast IPA and Over Easy). The bottles are almost exclusively GK or Belhaven, with the full ’Craft Academy’ line. I’ve been in GK pubs with far less selection or atmosphere, and it’s pleasant enough being here. One point to raise: the service was slow. Unbelievably slow. I waited for ages, with four people in the queue and two bar staff. Won’t mark them down too much as they were friendly and it may have been a one-off, but that was my experience. |
