Moccasin Bend Brewing Company

Unique place off the beaten path with a bit of a rough and run-down look to it. Certainly authentic and diy, to say the least. The two tough-looking canines added to the atmosphere. Seems like a place were a lot of friends of the brewers hang out. Beers available in flights, one of the experimental beers was served from bottle. Most of the beers were pretty good, with a lot of variety in styles. Brewer wasn't friendly in the traditional manner but loosened up when I talked a bit with him later. The place to go to in Chattanooga.

This is an exceptional place. I drove around the block three times, then gave up and went to Terminal Brewing. They convinced me to go back and try again, and I’m glad I did. I just picked a big building and walked around it a couple of times until I saw a sub-basement with lights on - voila, that was it! Inside is a large funky tasting room, medium L shaped bar, randomly scattered tables, chairs, games and dogs, plus a performance stage that later becomes more random chairs and tables. Decent sized patio with speakers. The two dogs were very cool indeed. Most of the customers were bar staff themselves, or friends of the bar staff. Live music, mellow Irish tunes, like you’d find in a pub in Galway, not in the touristy areas. The beers were very tasty and creative, a few flagships, but mostly specials, including three nice sours. Flights of four are six bucks, and additional tasters are a buck fifty, although you can do pints of course. You walk through the brewery to use the toilet, and it’s the second messiest brewery I have ever seen in my entire life (I will NOT mention the first). On my way out I saw their very faded sign, no letters were actually visible. I’m not sure I want them to re-paint that sign, lest this place be overrun with hipsters and people from Washington DC. A real gem.

Off the beaten path in a tourist center. Nice selection of beers. Remodeled to be a bit more drinker friendly. A must stop in Chattanooga.

Went there for the St. Paddy’s Party and place was packed by the end of the night. Located in the basement of a historic industrial building. Kind of like hanging out is someone’s basement. Small bar with about 5 chairs, a couple table tops, an area for bands, and a nice big screen with the NCAA games on. They had 12 or so beers on tap with a firkin and a cask. All the beers I had were solid. Pretty big for a nano brewery. Service was great while I was there and you can do flights or what they call "tours" of all there beers and there are growler options as well. All of there beers were solid and the coconut porter was really good. Really laid back and the best beer option for beer geeks in Chattanooga IMO.

Talk about chaos! Chris seemed kind of ADHD and the place looks like tornado wreckage. I dare you to find three continuous feet of uninterrupted floor space, and the self-guided "tour" is picking your way through the clutter (half of which isn’t brewing-related). The tasting room is furnished with what even Grandma wouldn’t keep around. We were left alone with our samples (eight 4-ounce for $10) or pretty much the whole time. But the beer was good and had some creative twists

I’m sorry I wanted to like this place, but the guy is full of himself. He has lots of pasion for beer, but is quick to insult and not really excited about the customer. He actually made me to a bit mad. His beers were overall good. Prices for growlers are to high compared to others in Tennessee. He has skills but no customer service.

Drank here before Noogfest 5, beers were good, all the Noog people got to meet before the tasting and it was great talking to the brewers. Butters you were right man, I should not have had that extra pint there so close to the start of the tasting.

MBBC is interesting. They’re located in the basement of an older building in a historic district. If you’re not looking closely, you’ll miss it. The setup is reminiscent of the basement on "That 70s Show", fully equiped with a harvest gold fridge. All that being said, they pour some tasty and unique brews, are all very friendly, and seem to have a good time doing what they do. I’d recommend for any beer lover. I’m sure I’ll be back.

It has been exceedingly difficult for me to find Moccasin Bend’s beers at stores and bars around town so I decided to go to the source which paid off. Tastings are conducted here on Saturdays and Sundays after 2pm. For $6 you get a flight of all the beers in 3 oz. glasses and one pint of your choice. There were a total of 11 beers on when I went so it was quite the bargain. The tasting room is quaint and eccentrically decorated with a hodge podge of couches, books, records, a jukebox, and miscellaneous decor. The brewer gave us a tour and conducted the tasting and was more than eager to talk about beer. He also let us try the base smoked beer for his smoked porter blend and it honestly was a tremendously delicious beer, however they were reluctant to release it as its own brand given the questionable popularity of smoked beers. I would recommend this as a stop for any beer geek with some extra time in Chattanooga.

This place is hard to find if you don’t know where you are looking. It’s actually behind the building in the basement. Chris has always been very welcoming and the visit to his facility the day of Noog 5 was no different. He had 7 or 8 or so beers available to try and was kind enough to be cooking BBQ for us as well. The facilities are spartan but it is very much a working brewery. Stop by if you are in the neighborhood. They will treat you right.
