80 Beer bar in a narrow corner building with a standard pub feel. A few non-invasive TVs and bar in the back. Service was good. 20 taps with flights available. Cans and bottles as well. Prices seemed fair overall. A solid stop. |
86 Corner bar handily placed on the walk back from the SCG. 20 taps dispensing a fine array of styles of mostly Australian & NZ beers. Service was good considering the bar was so busy with the raucous after cricket crowd in. Tasting paddles served, 5 beers for $17.50 but on Thursday’s it’s only $10. Worth a visit for sure |
78 Old style pub complete with tiles. Big wooden tables. Loud music, but not too offensive. Servers quickly late on Saturday afternoon. Friendly service. About 20 taps with almost exclusively Australian beer - and a very interesting selection it is mostly. |
70 According to their website they are no longer affiliated with Local Taphouse Melbourne, but it’s still called Local Taphouse and there don’t appear to have been any meaningful changes, except the paddles now cost $17.50, which is still a good deal. Bartender was annoyed when I asked for a recommendation, told me to get the lager. Great selection with one-offs from small local breweries. Pretty generic large pub interior with normal pub food. Good place to find beers you won’t see elsewhere. |
72 Bitter Phew definitely has a better selection, especially of bottles, but they’re both worth checking out. Nice atmosphere, good range of about 20 Australian beers on tap. |
74 Big bar, dark wood, bar in the middle. Good number of seating, but clearly not enough on a busy early friday evening. 20 taps with Australian micros, of the 5 beers i had quality was good to very good. Fast and Freindly service. Fair prices and a 5 piece sampler avaible at 17 dollars. |
76 Impressive taplist, with a good range of Australian craft and a few imported. Beers were all in good shape. Server was friendly, the only problem being that he didn’t tell us they were closing in 30 minutes until after I’d ordered my tasting paddle, meaning I had to rush a little more than I would have liked. Prices were reasonable for Sydney, with tasting trays of 5 for $17. Nice place. |
84 This is an awesome place. Deceptively massive, with many levels of seating, including a roof top area with its own bar. Excellent tap list and they do custom paddles. Prices are standard (high) for the city. We had some dinner here too - the food was decent. Service is friendly and helpful. A must stop when in Sydney. |
92 Best selection of beers so far in our beer tour. Some really great stuff I never knew existed and left with my eyes wide open. Will definitely come back when I’m back home. |
74 I’ve been here a few times over the years and it is certain they have for a long time been streets ahead of all others for their range of decent beer. However, the timing of visiting can be a major factor in whether it is an enjoyable experience. With close proximity to the SCG and SFS it is prone to loud noisy crowds whenever there are events at these stadiums, especially before and after. During such times service can also be very slow, and as such the overall enjoyment is lessened. With lots of other venues (nearby) now offering a good range of taps, it can now be avoided at such times. The food in the dining room upstairs was excellent the one time I tried. At quieter times it is indeed a great place to sample a few great brews. |
