Large Wetherspoons that looks like it used to be a hotel at the back end of the Railway Station. Unusually for this chain it is a little way off the more popular parts of Buxton and the road system is a bit nasty to cross. There is plenty of outdoor seating but our visit was on a cold July day so we had to sit indoors, plenty of room. In these Covid times there was a fair amount of rules to follow, some more difficult than others. I couldn't get the App to work in here so we had to order at the bar, it seems this was a common complaint. The beer I had was ropy and the food awful for both of us. They appeared to be running on a threadbare staffing level. Not one to return to.

Large and busy ’Spoons overlooking a park & kids play area - if you sit out in the large front patio area (and carefully choose the end furthest from the busy A6) then you can let the kids go and play on the playground while you wait for your food to arrive. Inside the right hand side of the pub is a bit nicer and slightly more restaurant-like, while the front and left is very pubby and a bit grubby. Service was efficient and friendly (as seems usal for ’Spoons), but there were only two guest beers on the ten cask handpumps (both local-ish). Beer quality was unusually poor for a ’Spoons, definitely felt like the beers had been on for too long. Food was of the consistent quality and great value that we know and love this chain for. Overall an OK ’Spoons, but shame about the poor beer condition and lack of choice.

We (me, Loz, Lynn and Barry) popped into here for breakfast Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th February 2017. This is a large Wethespoons on the edge of the town, just off the Bakewell Rd and on the A6, there is a large patio laid to slabs out the front and the pub looks across to Ashwood Park. As Man vs Beer mentions there is limited parking out the front.

It’s a fairly typical Spoons layout but occupying a nice old building that is quite separate from any other it is less gloomy than most. The bar is straight ahead on entry and the seating areas wrap around the bar with some areas offering higher tables and stools and other areas more comfortable seating. Unusually for a Spoons the toilets are on the same level, I say unusually because in my experience the vast majority are either up or downstairs. Beer choice was probably slightly below par for a Spoons but otherwise I quite liked it.

Wetherspoon in a large freestanding building just out of the centre of town underneath the glorious but defunct railway arches. It’s handy for a stopover if you are on the main road through the Peak District but parking spaces are limited. It’s setting is next to a public park and it has a large patio that looks out into this. Inside the ground floor is of a considerable size and traditionally decorated in this chains style making it a comfortable affair. Two rows of real ale pumps to choose from.
