54 Ambiance is nice, limited outdoor seating. Their beer selection is limited and doesn't change often, no food but lots nearby and they usually have a food truck. |
88 Nice open tap room with long tables both indoors and out for congregating and drinking. Service was good, if not a little hectic, and the counter style ordering like a buffet or fast food place was a little odd. They did know there stuff and managed the crowd well though. Selection was great, plenty of house options and they were all really well executed. Food trucks outside, fair pricing. Definitely one of the larger ones in the area, and for good reason. Also, in a decent neighborhood to check out some solid beers bars as well. |
76 Came here for a flight before going to the birch a few blocks away. Decent sized place with a good view of the brewing equipment. Small patio, beer hall seating. 8 beers in a flight, had another not included. Food from a lock pizza shop could have been ordered by the handlebar mustache broseph. Trivia night is on wensday as I found out. Chill place worth looking at. I don’t think I would go back tho, given the bitch is next door... Almost. |
52 Despite having an awesome facility - I’ve still yet to try one of their beers that I didn’t think was mediocre or crappy. They all taste like someone didn’t really clean the fermentation vessels completely...(i.e., chemical taste).
Sorry as this is easily the nicest facility in Hampton Roads. |
78 Finally! I don’t know what took me so long given its proximity to The Birch, but I finally stopped in tonight. 8 taps plus a cask pour running. Flights of the basic 8 were $13, which is not terrible. Nice open space, easy viewing of the brewing equipment. Long picnic style tables and a bar against the brewing window. No real food - looked like pretzels for sale when I was there. Core lineup is pretty solid, no real standouts, but no duds either. Staff are friendly and helpful. Good place. |
72 Nice place right down from The Birch in Norfolk. New age tap room with a small space for a band, a bit loud, and an outdoor area with picnic and food truck. NIce selection of taps, they were out of DIPA when I stopped by, and a decent selection after that. A nice place, I will be back next time I’m in town. Prices were good as was service. |
82 Finally made it to Smartmouth to check out their brewery and I left impressed. The tasting area is a large open space with glass on one side to allow you to look into the brewery. There are several picnic style tables and a small bar area for some additional seating. On one end of the room is the bar which features their year round offerings and a few seasonals. There were plenty of people working on the busy Saturday that I went all of whom seemed friendly and knowledgeable. There were a good mix of beers available especially considering there were fewer than 10 selections on tap. Prices were in line with other breweries and bars. Overall a really nice place and a very cool, relaxed atmosphere. |
78 Located in an industrial area. Good parking options. Outside sitting area. Friendly staff and frequent brewery tours. You can buy pints of all beers or 5 oz samplers as well as growlers to go. Worth a visit if you’re in the Ghent area. |
82 Cheap samplers, and very good beer. Strange location, but only a couple blocks from the Birch. Definitely worth a brief detour. |
76 New (to me ) micro-brewery in Norfolk. Walking distance to the Birch. Nice simplistic open space with chalkboard etc. It had strangely very similar vibe to many Ontario/Quebec breweries. They offer samplers. Had not much chance to interact with service. Beers were very consistent, tad on safe side. Very clean but you can’t escape the feel that brew master had to brew in past as some bigger location. Knowledge of beer chemistry was apparent. I see good things in the future for them. |
